2 Dead and 23 injured being reported now.

So tragic. It is Patriot's Day in Maine and Massachusetts, which is a day to commemorate the Battles of Lexington and Concorde. I seriously hope this was the only target today.

Updated to 2 dead, 23 severely injured.
10:40 pm - Now 3 dead,, 141 injured

I'm thinking domestic terrorism.

No group has claimed responsibility. I think Muslim extremists would have tried to use a larger bomb (or bombs) like a car or truck. They would have wanted to kill more people than 2.

Just heard that 10 people suffered some sort of amputation.

God bless the families of the dead and injured.

Major kudos to the first responders. No idea if there were any more explosives in the area and the video shows many responders going into action and assisting the injured. Rather than run away from the blasts, they ran towards the blast.

Muslim extremists use smaller bombs abroad all the time. Not pointing any fingers....but the size of the bombs may have had more to do with the level of security the bombers were dealing with. Form over function...

This morning, it was being reported that THREE are dead, including an 8 yr. old boy, and over 170 injured, 17 "critically".... doctor mentioned several amputations. So the damage was MUCH more severe than originally reported. Just hope we catch the bastard(s) who did this.... I want a quick trial, not one that's drawn out with appeals etc.

Guess not. Someone at CNN should be ashamed of themselves. Being first is sometimes not as important as being accurate.

With the media? Being FIRST is always most important. #-o Accuracy in reporting is something that has been long lost on most all media outlets.

Well if a source told him that he was captured it's on that source. He obviously should check around but that's a bit of a self righteous statement.

Remember that the next time (insert blog here) reports something and you (not specifically you, the "general" you) climb all over CNN/FOX/Whoever for running the story later. While those who are wrong should be held accountable (not to the level of "ashamed of themselves", but accountable) for going with something that wasn't officially released, the way the Drudge/Deadspin/HuffPo/etc's of the world get put on a pedestal for "scooping" mainstream media with the 1 out of 100 pieces of crap they fling on the wall, there's no way they can sit on something that big if they believe they've vetted their sources and believe it to be true.

That's just the thing. Drudge/HuffPo/etc has dragged the mainstream media down to their level and now nobody knows who or what to believe anymore.

Pretty much. Well, not so much HuffPo, they can only copy and paste so much, so fast.

I do agree that they should be waiting for actual facts, but if you see the interview he essentially said he talked to someone who knew and they told him that they had the guy so I don't really fault him too much, just retract it asap and apologize.

What I hate more is the speculation stuff.

Ah. I hadn't seen the interview, just the announcement then the backlash on social media. As I've thought about it more, a national outlet like CNN probably has less to gain by being 15 minutes before the next guy, as opposed to what they stand to lose by being wrong. But then again, the on-air egos are so big at that point, they probably couldn't take it if they got beat, right or wrong.

One suspect has been killed. His younger brother, the other suspect, is still on the run.
