My question is.... could this be a record for any one HS in any one year? I can recall St. Ignatius sending 6-7 kids at one time, but TWELVE?

Glenville HS- New record?
Any of you who follow HS and college FB have undoubtedly heard of Glenville HS in Cleve., the new "rising power" in HS FB in NE Ohio...according to the PD today, (And I have seen it on other sites too), the Tarblooders have TWELVE kids getting D-1 scholarships for FB today, plus their Hispanic kicker is going to Howard (I think) on scholarship.

Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)

glenville and teddy ginn sr. are doing what many whiners complain that parochials do, and stockpiling talent from around the area. basically, any cleveland public schools student can attend glenville and play football if he chooses.Class of 61 wrote:Any of you who follow HS and college FB have undoubtedly heard of Glenville HS in Cleve., the new "rising power" in HS FB in NE Ohio...according to the PD today, (And I have seen it on other sites too), the Tarblooders have TWELVE kids getting D-1 scholarships for FB today, plus their Hispanic kicker is going to Howard (I think) on scholarship.

i'd have to think that, although 12 is a big number, some 70s or 80s moeller teams, or old timey (pre playoff system) masillon teams might have had something similar.

I know a school in Texas in the 90's put out something like 20 kids to Div IA schools. May have been Dallas Carter. I remember they had kids who didn't even start going to small Div IA schools.
As far as not winning a state title....they have been getting closer the past few years. They lost to St Eds in the Regional Finals this year by 10.
In 2004 they were a better team IMO, yet lost to Canton McKinley in the State Semifinals. McKinley then got blasted by Colerain in the finals (50-10 I believe).
Their coaching staff does an amazing job of getting some of these kids off the streets and into a football program than gives them a means to succeed. They are not, however, great x's and o's coaches. They are heads and shoulders above the rest of the state with speed and talent, but they have a very limited playbook and rely too much on their athleticism and talent, which ends up burning them in the end when they're matched up against teams with supperior coaching and discipline, such as St Edward.
