why would you even bother reading ESPn recruiting? Lemming runs that, so why waste your money? Lemming is a no-class jerk.

They do have BG #72 and UT #73 as the top two classes in the MAC, but I found some errors and stupid rankings because they don't really know about the kids.

First, they only list 22 players for UT. We have 23 LOI's. The one they don't have is DB Greg Harris who was named All New England Class A prep school Player of the Year by the Boston Globe.

They have CB Desmond Marrow listed as a 1 star because I guess they don't know anything about him. The kid was Ohio Division IV Co-Defensive Player of the Year in the state. The other Co-Defensive Player of the Year is a linebacker that signed with Ohio State today. Marrow originally committed to Miami over the summer, and received a scholarship offer from Pittsburgh last week and was undecided up until last night when he sent a text message to the UT coaches saying he was going to sign with UT. At the very least he should be a high 2 star recruit, not 1 star.

In all, Scout has 6 UT recruits listed as 1 star players and each one of them are rated 2 stars by Rivals.com.......with 4 of them as high 2 star recruits. They also list two players as 2 stars that are listed as 3 stars on Rivals.com.

I am sure it is the same for BG with some of these recruits and Scout.com. I have always thought that Rivals.com does a better job of rating the players based on potential, but this year seems to be moreso than normal when comparing to Scout.com.
I'm not disrepecting Marrow, he might be a very good player, but in Scout's defense, D IV is small-time football. It is probably more difficult to get a good read on a kid coming from D IV since the overall talent level is weak. More often than not a mediocre D I team can absolutely destroy a very good D IV team.
I understand where you are coming at, and in defense of Marrow.....the guy he was co-defensive player of the year with is a linebacker that signed with Ohio State and was rated 3 stars. Why a 2 star difference between the two?

Because recruiting rankings for 90% of the kids that our schools sign and recruit are absolutely meaningless.

You hit the nail on the head. Marrow received an offer from Pittsburgh over the weekend and almost signed with them. You can bet that if he would have signed with them he would magically jump to at least 2 stars if not 3.

Lemming doesn't run ESPN recruiting anymore. It's run by Scout, Inc. However, say what you want about Lemming, I'm not going to argue his character because I do not know him, but the man can judge talent. If you go back and look at his ratings and rankings from past years, he's pretty good. And not to say you don't know him, but I hope you know him to make such an accusation about his character.

ESPN is UBBER biased anyhow! They predicate their analysis based on the elite 6 conferences anyhow. Which is linked to other monetary bullcrap set by the BCS and university presidents. WHY BOTHER

ESPN rated Ben Roethlisberger higher than Manning and Rivers, and their scouting report stated Ben would most likely turn out to be the best of the three.

I do have a question though...is the reason we have so many one stars just because Scout doesn't have any info on those recruits? I also figured D.J. Young would be a 3 star
Guys, you need to realize, a 1* on Scout.com is a 1* because they do not have film on him or they have not evaluated them. I know people get mad because there is not a bunch of BGSU coverage, but Scout.com is just the network. The sites are individually owned and operated.

Think you can do a good job? Take the BGSU site and run with it.

As far as Desmond Marrow, don't use that Div IV crap. He's from Mooney and if you know anything about Ohio Football, you know what Mooney is. Very rich tradition and always extremely talented. The kid he shared with is actually a 4* LB going to OSU, not a 3*.

Just thought I'd try to clear some of this up with facts.

BTW -- the recruiting class highlight video is amazing. I saw it at the banquet and don't worry about rankings from these sites when it comes to MAC schools because they're meaningless. They don't have the resources to do a solid job.

Just take my word on it -- we have some great talent coming in. Possibly the best class in the past 5 years. Two very solid QBs in Sheehan and Glaud (Sheehan's got a cannon). Lots of playmakers in Jahmal Brown, PJ Mahone and those Florida kids. Can't remember his name, I think it's Calvin Marshall from Dillard, but he's gonna be a badass here as a safety. Sick talent.

Good looking defensive talent coming in as well. I'm pumped about this class.

Calm down and read what was written. The kid might be the best player in the world, but it is simply harder to get a good read on kids coming from D IV. Yes, I know Mooney plays some catholic schools from D III and some bigger private schools. Regardless, there are different criteria involved in kids winning the D IV player of the year and kids projecting to be college stars.

I'm very calm. You need to realize that Mooney isn't a normal Div IV team. Normal Div IV teams don't play Warren Harding, Cleveland Benedictine, SVSM, Ursuline and Watterson every year.

And yes I know there's more criteria than that. The bottom line is the kid is a player. He's big, fast and makes plays. I've seen him play live twice and one more time on TV. How many times have you seen him?

I think he's talking about their high school recruiting and you are talking about their pro scouting, no? If I remember correctly, Rivers and Manning would have been a year older than Roethlisberger coming out of hs....
