And the real question....remember back in the 80's when the NFL went on strike and brought in "scab" players? Do those "scab" players count if they never played a down outside of during that time period that the NFL players were on strike?Dayons_Den wrote:I would say that in order to be included as having "NFL experience" one must play in a regular season or playoff football game for at least one down. That would mean the player has "made their NFL debut". Practice squads and preseason are good accomplishments but to me a guy listed as being "in the NFL" means he played in a game.Goose wrote:UK & Rocketfootball: Good points regarding that website. You are correct that the database does not appear to have been updated in a few years.
It also appears that they only list those who were on an active roster and not those on a team's practice squad.
BGSU, ut head to head.

I agree with you on that Dayons Den. I was just pointing out what the database is listing.Dayons_Den wrote:I would say that in order to be included as having "NFL experience" one must play in a regular season or playoff football game for at least one down. That's a perfectly acceptable definition for making the NFL. That just means the linked BG page is missing player that played in 2005, like Scott Mruczkowski and Shuan Suisham. Keep in mind though that this one play requirement would eliminate a NFL draftee in Josh Harris, who has yet to be in for a single play in the regular season. It would also eliminate Diepenbrock, Redd, and Wingrove, all of whom I think played in NFL Europe, but to my knowledge have not played in the NFL. The others I just included for the hell of it since they had tryouts. I agree that practice squad and NFL Europe players should not be included as NFL players yet, but Harris should be included as an NFL player, along with Suisham and Mruczkowski IMO. Perhaps the definition of an NFL player should be those that make the regular season 53-man roster. In this case, Josh would be included as an official NFL player since he was on the Brown's regular season roster, despite not seeing any regular season game action. That's at least how I would define and NFL player.Dayons_Den wrote:I would say that in order to be included as having "NFL experience" one must play in a regular season or playoff football game for at least one down. Someone else who appears to be missing from the database is Kyle Kramer. I am pretty certain he suited up for the Browns for a couple of seasons, I seem to recall looking for him during TV games in '88 or '89. . . .UK Peregrine wrote:That's a perfectly acceptable definition for making the NFL. Kyle was a high school classmate of two of my roommates. I think he was with the Browns in '90 and '91.Dayons_Den wrote:Someone else who appears to be missing from the database is Kyle Kramer. Chuck Chuckovits from UT played in the NBL, from which arose the NBA, with teams like the Lakers and Pistons and players like George Mikan and future UT coach Jerry Bush. Also Don Otten played there and is on the All-Time NBL team with Chuckovits. Chuck was leading scorer and MVP in 41-42 but didn't play long because there was no money in it.

[quote="transfer2BGSU"]We have had over 10,000 freshmen apply for admission to BGSU for the Fall 2006 semester. We hit 10,000 about two weeks ago.
Our matriculation rate is in the 38-39% range.
Man, somebody else used the word matriculate in a football context. Hank Stram would be proud.

The next time I check into a hotel I am going to avoid the paparazzi by using the name Chuck Chuckovits. Dick Dickenheimer just seems to draw too much attention.h2oville rocket wrote:Chuck Chuckovits from UT played in the NBL, from which arose the NBA, with teams like the Lakers and Pistons and players like George Mikan and future UT coach Jerry Bush. I don't know if you brought it up yet, but Jim Swaney was another Rocket who had some NBA experience. He didn't actually play in a game, but I believe he was with the Philadelphia 76ers for a little bit. I remember when he scored 40 points on Bill Laimbeer when UT played Notre Dame in the NCAA Tournament. Great player....had a great shot and rarely did you see the guy miss.
