Yeah, this is very old news, but I stumbled across an 03 ncaa football preview mag today at work. Remember what everyone was saying about us before last season? Some of this is really funny to look back on now.

BGSU 2003 Outlook:

Injuries and a big time lack of depth killed their chances at a MAC title last season. New coach Gregg Brandon will have the same depth problems. A better defense will get them three or four wins.

Preseason all mac player pics: BGSU, none

Projected at 5-7 tied for fourth with Ball State and behind NIU, UT, and WMU

Pope wasn't even mentioned in the section discussing the running game.

Oh, and the last thing that really got me:

Program on the rise: Central Florida

Program on the decline: BGSU

No, none of this matters and it didn't matter then either, but I think it's fun to see how very wrong the "experts" are sometimes.

Where did that come from? I don't remember any publications picking us to be that bad last year. Most had us picked 2nd in the West if I remember correctly.

its probably an NCAA, BcS, or Big Ten(11) propaganda booklet.

I really didn't pay attention to what magazine it was but I'll try and check tomorrow if I can find it again. All I know is it had preseason looks at every D1 team along with conference predictions. I only read through the couple of pages on BG.
I seem to remember most publications I read putting us 3rd behind NIU and UT with some having us at 2nd, but I could be wrong.

The article itself actually sounded fairly positive. It mentioned how good they thought Harris should be and the breakdowns by position sounded encouraging all the way around. Then you got to the segments I posted which were in the conference outlook and the summary. I kind of got the feeling that several different people made contributions to our preview and they were all leaning different directions.

Phil Steele's preview is the ONLY one to buy....trust me on that.
