Khary Campbell Update

Post by UK Peregrine »

Well, since I'm doing the update rounds this morning, here's a little snippet on Khary.

"Khary Campbell continues to serve as a valuable special teams player and backup at middle linebacker. Last season, he played in 15 games and led the special teams units with 34 tackles. He also had nine tackles in a reserve linebacker role.

Campbell, a fourth-year pro, returned from a knee injury that sidelined him part of the 2004 season and was voted by his teammates as the Redskins' recipient of the Ed Block Courage Award.

Campbell is also an unrestricted free agent. Re-signing him could be a key to maintaining stability on special teams this off-season."

Great news. As we all learned this past season, good Special Teams play is extremely important. Jeff

Thanks for the update! I loved watching KC play here and am impressed with the way he has played for the Skins. Hopefully, they will resign him.

The real problem here becomes the same thing it did with Kevin O'Neill in Detroit. He too was a STs ace and they didn't want to lose him.

The problem is that the minimum salary goes up with each year of experience these guys have, and teams aren't going to want to fill up a roster spot, and the higher salary figure, on a STs player only. Those spots will usually go to younger guys that also have upside at playing a LB or DB position.

I wish the best for Campbell, but if he's going to be solely a STs player his NFL time is probably running short. I have seen him make some plays in the preseason on defense, so hopefully he'll be able to get on the field on that unit as well a little more.

When I hear Khary's name mentioned, I always think of Ike Reese. Reese was a special teams star with the Eagles who got a shot at some regular PT. He cashed in on that with Atlanta.

And the Browns were so thrilled with Lang that they've released him, despite his willingness to switch from DE to LB, playing out of position...The joys of NFL "loyalty", right? :P

If I didn't know better, I'd say UK Peregrine's new avatar shows Kiwa Hirsuta, a hitherto unknown eyeless shellfish about 15cm long, recently discovered in hydrothermal vents along the Pacific Antarctic Ridge, south of Easter Island.

Any chance of a football season happening soon?

You don't really think the football season will help UK be less of a geek do you?

BTW, he didn't even know about that little fuzzy crustacean until I told him about it.
