Practice begins Saturday for the Falcons

March 23, 2006

Bowling Green, Ohio - Eighty-three players are expected to participate in the first day of spring football practice this Saturday at 10 a.m. This will be the first of 15 official workouts for the Falcons will hold their annual spring game on Saturday, April 22 at noon.

FALCONS CLAIM FIFTH STRAIGHT WINNING SEASON
The Falcons finished the season with a 6-5 record. It was the fifth straight year that BGSU has posted a winning record, the fourth longest streak in school history.

BGSU also captured a share of the MAC East title with a 5-3 record. It is the second division crown for BGSU since the league was split into divisions in 1997 (2003, MAC West). BGSU has finished first or second in the MAC standings in 24 of their 54 seasons in the league.

Freshman cornerback Antonio Smith finished tied for the national lead with two interception returns for scores. He was named honorable mention freshman All-American by The Sporting News.

Junior left guard Kory Lichtensteiger and senior right guard Derrick Markray will return after earning second team All-MAC honors last year.

BGSU led the MAC in punt return yardage and finished 18th nationally at 12.97 yards per game.

Its nice to see that Deaudre Perry is back on the team. Hopefully he can make it through an entire season this year.

Hopefully this depth chart is accurate. I saw that Enrique Dozier was listed. I thought I saw on this site earlier that he had left the team. This could be great news!

I was just about to post that. Very surprising. Also surprising to see Cody Basler's name ahead of John Haneline. I'm looking forward to seeing that kid play in the Spring Game.

I think that Fells and Jackson will be seeing a good bit of time at SAM or MIKE this fall.

I notice that Curtis has been moved from NG to C and that Brandon Mack has slid inside full time to DT. Lining him and Briggs up on the same side gives us a very quick and disruyptive (though smallish) DT/DE combo.

Winovich has moved to TE....Two years ago, I thought he'd be a fixture at LB by now.

Really glad to see Perry back there....wouldn't suprise me to see Marshall get a lot of time this fall back there either.

This is a reallky young team. Brandon said on signing day that several of the kids from this year's class could see time this fall.

I wonder who's gonna punt at the spring game?

Curits moved to offense to play center? What the heck?

I'd like to get excited about Deaudre's name on the roster, but he has a lot to prove - off the field. When he's on the field, Perry is a difference maker.

Flip, I'm with you on Winovich. When he moved to LB, I thought we could pencil him in as all-MAC for his final two seasons. Now he's behind Sean O @ TE and I wonder if he'll even be an impact player before he's done.

Yeah , I don't get the Curtis at center thing either. he's barely big enough as it is to play NG or DT. Unless Coach B really expects guys like Barrow and DJ Young to play at NG/DT right way , which is possible I guess.

I wouldn't be surprised if we have a bunch of guys who we brought in on defense this year played right away, particularly on the defensive line. Our DL was among the worst in college football last year anyway, and the more competition we have at those positions, the better. It pushes our guys. I have faith in what coach Brandon does.

Good points, everyone. Coach talked about the redshirting class last year a lot (in his wait until next year talks), and there are 13 players from that class on the two deep, including Parks, who kind of doesn't count. Clearly, we are counting on them.

This is a young team,, so we may be a year away. On the other hand, if this team can contend, we can look forward to some big years coming up. Our two deep shows only three senior starters on offense and two on defense.

What always worked well for me was golfing, especially in the early afternoon when no one is on the course. If you get on the back nine at Forrest Creason at the right time, you can watch practice from the 13th and 14th holes for quite a while! FOUR!
