C'mon doomsayers! As poor a showing as some of you thought last season was in reality we fell an overtime stop against Toledo short of winning the East, or a Western Michigan win in the final week from winning the East, or a Ball State win..........

We lost the East on a freakin' 4th third tiebreaker! And if we got into the MACC I would venture anything would have been possible...because by then Omar would have been uber-healthy and could have given NIU as much game as Akron did....and then we could have beat Memphis.... again!
We went 6-5 overall, we went 5-3 in the MAC, we went 2-3 at home, we went 1-3 at home vs. the MAC. Fell well short? With the talent we had last year and then turn out those results - hell yeah we fell short. That team was practically given the MACC before they even took the field by everyone who knew, covered, worked or coached in the MAC and some even felt we could be a BCS Buster and BG was being talked about last year as possibly the best team in school history. I'm not saying last season was a disaster, we certainly had bright sports to our season and things could have been worse in many ways. But I stand by my opinion that we fell well short of what we "coulda, shoulda, woulda" accomplished in 2005.

Have to agree. The 2005 team was too talented to be happy with the possibility of backing into the MACC. But, as they say, yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. I'm done with 2005; it's time to focus on the current edition of the Falcons.

We've had the arguments over and over again, but I still agree with '87 & '33. As far as I'm concerned last year was an abysmal failure. It was quite clear that the championship was the goal, and nothing else was acceptable based on our talent. We played like crap from the 2nd half of the Wisconsin game on throughout the whole season. We didn't dominate teams we should have and we lost to some teams that we shouldn't have lost to. The team lacked direction & focus.

Call me a doomsayer, I don't care. The fact is last year's team was picked by the media & coaches to win the conference. Everyone on this website was pretty adamant about what the expectations were. We were in the SI preseason top 25. Then when it was all said and done we were a mediocre team that didn't beat one quality opponent all year long. A failure is a pretty fair way to describe it, IMO.

I'll make it a foursome to say that last season was disappointing. Any one that looks at it differently must have had some extremely low expectations.

I agree with all who say last year was a disappointment. I would count the road slaughter of Miami as a quality win though.

going into last season i thought we would be either really good or really dissapointing. As everyone should know, a great defense well always be better than a great offense. All those people who picked us to do so well last year only looked at our offensive side of the ball, they never even mentioned how terrible the defense was going to be. Yes we had great talent on offense but Omar was the catalyst of it all as we found out when he went down. The fact is the defense was terrible, which is why with the recruits this year, even if our offense is half as good as last year, I think we well be a better overall team. We werent a team last year, we were offense. If we couldnt outscore them we were screwed. We didn't have defense, or special teams.

Last year was a major disappointment...end of discussion. I'll join the others that have pointed that out. I thought 8-3, at the worst, with the talent on that team. I predicted MAC title and bowl game along with a Top 25 ranking. I fell flat on my face on that prediction.
As disappointing as it was, the fact is BG was one or two plays away from being in the MACC. But we didn't get it done.

This season, I expect the team to contend for the East title...and that's as far as I want to look at this time.

33,
Kent State??? I'm not sold on Ohio, either. For me, it will be BG and Akron slugging it out in the East...I think Miami loses too much and they play at BG and Akron this year.
Kent State was 1-10 last year...their only win was over a 1-AA team. I know they have some talent and some injuries last year but I don't get that at all.
OTOH, Phil is pretty good with his predictions....

Last year, Akron needed 16 millions things to fall their way in the last 2 weeks of the season to win the East and it happened.

102 freakin days to go....or roughly 2,443 hours...or 146,880 minutes...or 8,812,800 seconds....or.....eh, who's counting?
