Based solely on his spring game performance, I can see why most people on this board do not believe that Freddie Barnes is the long-term solution at the quarterback spot. However, as someone stated earlier, Sheehan and Glaud will both end up redshirting unless they tear it up in two-a-days or if both QBs ahead of them get injured. I don't see either of those happening. AT is our quarterback until somebody takes it away from him and I don't think anyone is going to. I think he is going to have a pretty big year. I think if he had a deeper and speedier receiving corps that he would have a huge year.

Freddie Barnes may not have a huge arm, but passing the ball will not get us a W against Wisconsin. Omar had a monster game last year and it still got us a big L. Freddie gives us a better shot at winning the game due to his versatility and his year in the system. I think his speed in the running game along with the Macon/Thomas combination give us a chance to control the clock and hopefully wear down their defense. If you thought Brandon and Stud limited the playbook for AT last year, think about the number of plays that we would run if Glaud started against Wisconsin.

Van Johnson? Pete Winovich? I hope you guys are kidding. If you're not, why not mention Will Myles? He was a higher rated QB than the other two. Freddie is our guy for Wisconsin whether everyone on here likes it or not.

To comment on the original post, thanks for linking the article. I think we will get a MAC title before AT leaves.

I remember a lot of people thinking that we were in trouble at the QB spot when Josh Harris graduated, based upon the spring game one young QB from Florida had. Put him in the game and let's see how he does when it really matters.

I agree. While I feel the QB race is open, IF AT can keep his head on straight, he will be a hell of a QB before its all said and done. I was watching last year's WMU game the other night and his passes were right on the $$, tight and crisp. Our WR's not named Sharon and Sanders dropped a bunch. AT will get us a MAC title...I think sooner than some think.

Barnes is gonna be the QB vs Wisky...period.

Freak, I agree. I know I'm in the minority, but I think he's going to be another very good QB.

I agree with you both and always have. The marijuana thing was troubling, but he seems to understand his mistake and is learning from it. I'm thinking the newcomers are going to light a fire under his ass and he'll end up being all-MAC this year. I hope anyway.

I get the feeling from AT that he's more focused and ready to be a leader; basically just seems a lot more mature than around this time last year.

Good to see people talking about BG News articles :) Keep that feedback coming.

I don't think anyone would be upset if you provided a link from time to time for feature stories. If nothing else it might give people something else to complain about besides our punt formation, last year's defense and the demolition of the yet to be completed Sebo Center.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

I do too, O & B. While he made his share of mistakes last year when filling in for Omar, there were other times we saw some great athleticism. He seems faster than Josh and is definitely faster than Omar. He doesn't have the bullish running style of Josh or the arm of Omar but seems to have a great all round game. Not to mention the coaches didn't open up the playbook very much for him either....

Give AT some time and look out. I wish he was starting against Wisky but what's done is done. If wishes were fishes, we'd all have a fry.
I'll be in Cleveland screaming for Freddie Barnes and all the Falcons. 67 days to go...
