I think Marshall has a similar issue, which is why they've always stuck with the artificial surface.

Ohio State has pumps to suck out water since seats were added closer to the field when the track was removed and the field was lowered several years ago. It also sits right next to the river which alters the water table levels in that exact area.

Ohio U. has also lowered its field recently when they renovated Peden and added more seats closer to the field after removing the track. OU's Peden also sits next to a river. Ohio had a difficult time maintaining the grass at Peden and a year after the renovation, they scrapped the grass in favor of Fieldturf. If you remember BG's 17-0 win over Ohio in Athens in 2002 , the field was coming up in chunks and it was the last year for grass there.

Yes, Marshall has turf because of the inability to grow grass at the stadium, though its turf is the old astro turf and the field has a big crown on it. They really need to chance that surface down there. If they can't grow grass there at Marshall, then go to Fieldturf already!
GO BG!!!

Lots of money being dropped into athletics recently, this is a good sign for the mid majors to start contending with the "big boys". Facilities was always one of the biggest gaps between the 2 levels of programs.
Yager Stadium has also been upgraded significantly with a great new video board and scoreboard, lighting and seating. You guys will have to come down and check it out! There is actually phase II and III being planned for the next couple years. You are right that most facilities need to be upgraded if we are to compete with other programs for recruits and fans.

I really like what they are doing at Miami. The improvements are making Yager a very nice stadium.

Thanks! Yager needed some 'updating'. It is really a neat venue for a game now. Anything new at BG? I will be coming up for the WMU game. Looking forward to watching Omar and company. I think he's going to be good. It will be fun to watch him develop over the next couple years like we did with Big Ben.
