We've discussed this before. My contention is that either BG had been over reporting attendance prior to that UT game or BG greatly underreported the attendance for that UT game. For example, there is no way that there were fewer fans at that game than there were at Marshall's last game at Doyt.Warthog wrote:Sorry Crazy Fan, but you are mistaken. Official statistics from that game show the attendance was 17,438.BGSU Crazy Fan 58 wrote: I know we've tried to block this game from our memories, but the UT game last November had over 20K at the Doyt. No question. And that game definently had a buzz and atmosphere to it. But pretty much every BG/Toledo game does.

I know what the "Official Statistics" say the attendance was but I'm with 58. There were a couple empty sections in the corners but it seemed there were more than 17K there.

We invested in lights, and yes they were one of the best investments the department has made in a few years, to give us versatility in scheduling. I would imagine you cannot call up only a few weeks before a game and order those portable lights. As much as we don't like it, we have to be able to adjust our game times to allow for the largest croud possible. I think that is terrible, but necessary until we establish a fan base that is stronger than the one we have now. This needs to be done both on campus and off campus. I believe our student attandance is the most stable part of our fan base. Our support in the community, and I am talking about non-BG alumni and faculty/staff, is horrible. That is a group we must do a better job of reaching. We also need to reach out to our alumni more. I have often wondered how successful it would be to establish bus routes from the major cities on game days. I would think we could get at least one bus of fans coming from Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati. This is outside of the local alumni chapters who bring in a bus for one game a season. But those are just some of my thoughts, discuss...DrDesert wrote:Why did the athletic department invest in lights? We never use them!
