Ridiculous history...

Post by TG1996 »

Just flipping through the media guide and came across some stuff that made my jaw drop.

I'm sure more than a few folks here were at the UT game in '83, the biggest crowd in stadium history... Brian McClure completed 35 of 59 passes that day, and BG lost 6-3. What the hell happened there?

There were others, including another '83 game vs. Ball State where Darryl Story ran for 225 yards, and BSU QB Neill Britt threw for 437 yards and 6 INT...

But the one that impressed me the most... until the '97-'98 Falcons lost eight straight games, the longest losing streak in school history had been seven games, which were the first seven games BG ever played in 1919-20.

I was at the '83 game..yeah we lost but the atmosphere was pretty awesome. McClure has his problems against UT. I don't think he put the ball in the end zone in '82, 83 or '84 against those bastages. He could move the ball between the 20's on them, but BFD, games are won in the red zone.

In 1983 I believe he threw at least one INT the end zone. For all his smarts, Brian had the habit of trying to get a little cute sometimes and he'd try to fit a ball in where his arm wasn't capable of getting the ball to.

1985 excrcised a lot of demons. The defense pitched a shutout against the bastages from Toledo and the offense scored a few TD's on them. It was a great win and really set things up so Denny could screw the team when they got to Fresno.

Wherever you are Denny....F' you!

I was at the '83 game. Homecoming if I recall. I came up from Miami to watch the game with the future Mrs. Tech.

As I recall, cold, windy, rainy. Does that sound right?

Got stuck sitting next to a bunch of @$$es from Toledo, 30 somethings that I am sure never even went to Tootley-do.

Bright side - stay with a friend who was a grad student and Mrs. tech stayed with her little sister....... Had a damn good time at Howards and Brathaus that night.

I was at the 1995 Bowling Green-Louisiana Tech game.

We were picked six times and still only lost 28-21.

That sucked.

I purposely left the Ryan Henry comments out of the original post. But thanks for that. :P

Your weather-memory is accurate. The weather was friggin' horrible.

That game in 1995 was my first as a Falcon. I marched that year and it was a Thursday night game. The University had to bring in the portable lights. It was so hot that marching band dressed in summer uniforms. All the freshmen heard about at practice was hot great BG football was and how that game agains Central Michigan last year was a fluke. The team would be fired up and ready to go. The rest...is history.
