PARTRIDGE OUT: Brandon said sophomore receiver Corey Partridge will miss the Wisconsin game with a knee sprain suffered in practice over the weekend.

"He's projected to be back for Buffalo [Sept. 9]," Brandon said. "I feel good about that. I think we dodged a bullet."

Partridge was a large part of BGSU's offense against the Badgers last year in his first collegiate game, bringing down eight catches for 160 yards.

Zach Charles will start in Partridge's spot at receiver and also handle punt return duties in place of Partridge. Charles is a 5-foot-10, 168-pound freshman from Winter Haven, Fla.

Brandon called him a "mini Charles Sharon."

Charles was projected as the backup punt returner and practiced there in camp.

"Antonio Smith can [return punts] as well, so if Zach gets a little wide-eyed in the first game, Antonio will go out and catch it," Brandon said. "We'll be all right."

Not knocking Charles at all, but this ain't good news. Bad enough the starting QB isn't there to deliver the ball, now the guy supposed to be catching it is out.

Anyone hear an early spread on this game? If it's less than 20 I'm betting the house.

20 is a bit iffy. Stocco might not play and definitely won't be 100%. They lost their fullback, and don't know yet if Thomas will play. Combine that with a brand new receiving core and a freshman RB, and I'm a little less confident about betting this game.

Losing CP hurts, but I didn't have any confidence in Barnes getting the ball to him anyway. If we move the ball at all this game, I think it will be on the ground from Macon or Barnes. If Barnes is even a competent passer, I'll be very pleasantly surprised. I think just our scheme is worth 14-20 points even if the offense struggles like I expect it to. Can Wisky score 35-40 without Thomas, Stocco, A fullback, Calhoun, or any proven receivers? I'm not so sure.

VA -- is there a documented line of 9 I could bet right now? If it's still under 10 when I can actually lay some money down, I'll probably do it.

i think we will get routed. We are young and small. By the end of the year I think we will be OK. Early against what can be a nice power rushing attack I dont think so.

I thought that way too before all the recent developments. It might just be the whole season's-only-a-week-away wave of optimism, but I think we might be able to hang around.

A blowout is definitely possible though. If we can't stop the run again, Wisky will hang another 40-50 on us even without Calhoun.

Do you ever wake up in the middle of the night but you feel like you are already late and you rush out of bed and start getting ready for work.

Thats how I feel. Is it Zach Charles time yet?

Zach leads the team with 12 catches, but what stands out to me is, his longest catch out of those 12 receptions went for just 7 yards. He's averaging just 3.6 ypc. No doubt we need more out of him and out of our passing game.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong here, but I think Zach has been playing alot as an outside receiver (as opposed to the slot). With Freddie's weak arm, I think the only routes the he has run are short outs or WR screens. I don't think Freddie's arm strength allowed for much in the way of deep outs or 12-15 yard comeback routes. Combine Freddie's arm with the close-to-the-vest playcalling and we have a freshman receiver averaging very little per catch. I don't think it is his fault. Hopefully his stats will improve as AT gets healthier and (hopefully) the playbook is opened up a bit.
