The majority of their gift—$3.5 million—will fund the construction of the Sebo Student Athlete Center.
The privately funded center, which will be located at the north end zone of the Doyt E. Perry Stadium, will become the stadium’s new front entrance. At approximately 33,500 square feet, the new two-story building will feature an expanded and state-of-the-art sports medicine and rehabilitation facility and a strength and conditioning area for all University student athletes.
There also will be football coaches’ offices, a video equipment and viewing room, team meeting rooms and conference rooms to enhance currently available facilities. A heritage room and an outdoor pavilion overlooking the playing field are also planned. Cost for constructing the center is estimated at $7 million.
NEW FRONT ENTRANCE:
Wouldn't you need a parking lot, and more sidewalks and a nearby road to really call this A NEW FRONT ENTRANCE. Once the build the building their will be no room for sidewalks, parking lots, etc. unless they plan in tearing into the golf course across the way.
Student Athletic Center
No, most of it will fit within the confines of the existing fenceline since the north bleachers are coming down. (Oh what will they change for GA tickets next year, and where ever will the place them.)
They will need to alter the road access to the stadium. It is an opportunity, much could be done with the chance they have, at low cost, if they do it right.
I won't be shocked if they add an access road from the south end of the stadium oval. At some point I can see some of the green space except for the soccer practice field, paved for parking. Most folks I have heard from the University are high on what the master plan suggests. This would send the main entrance drive straight past the visitors center, and arc around, until it runs along the area where the twin row of trees are. I can see them doing that at the same time perhapse, adding a new access point to the stadium oval there, rather than south from the score board.

A new exit IS part of the master plan, but not at Poe Rd. ODOT determined that would be to close to the Wooster exit. They are looking at Newton Rd as one of three sites. That is the favorite by the University because Mercer could be extended for a new entry directly to campus. It will all come down to some airport expansion on the North/South runway. Hopefully we will know very soon. I still want to see seating for the marching band incorporated into the design of the SAC. I like having them in the North endzone. The seats could be built under a pavilion for donors/recruits. This allows some more seating in the stadium for students.

I drove by the stadium today and was thinking. Move the Falcon Club tent off to the side and put the existing north end zone bleachers in front of the score board. It looks like it will fit perfectly. Then when the SAC is built incorporate about 300 seats for band memebers, for recruits, officals, etc. This way you got a nice spot for the band, and then have the end zones in front of the scoreboard. It wont look so bare then either.

Let's fill the seats we have before we talk about moving my game seats.bgsufan1972 wrote:Move the Falcon Club tent off to the side and put the existing north end zone bleachers in front of the score board.

I'd love to see the north endzone area sealed into the main stadium. Something that creates a shallow semi-circle just beyond the endzone. Assuming the bulk of the SAC is at the 12 o'clock position, build a concrete portal for the team to come out off at 2 o'clock, and another for the marching band to come through at 10 o'clock. Something more dramatic than the tunnel they use now for the team. Maybe add title years and team photos along the sides, so the team sees champions as they leave the lockers. Not that I would advocate changing the pre-game band routine, but I always liked the dramatic way some college bands "burst" out of a tunnel and onto the field.
Move the ROTC cannon to the space between the two portals. Move the flagpole to the center behind the goal posts, or attached it to the SAC. Have the ROTC raise the colors with the national anthem.
Create some signature stunt incorporating the SAC, for after each victory or score. (in addition to the cannon) Something that symbolical represents a BG win or score sending a "signal" to rest of the MAC.
Move the intra-quarter presentations that clog the end-zone, to the space in front of the SAC. Thus, if the presentation runs long, they can finish their photo-ops with grace.
"East Hall" only cost 5.5 million a few years ago, and it is a fair sized building. The SAC should figure to be a fair sized building in relation to the stadium. They have talked of expanding the lockers, so I would think the 2 o'clock position on the ground level would be the logical space to expand into, which wouldn't inter with stadium ramps and such.
If they should move anything, it should be the BGSU bookstore tent. Either expand the Falcon Club tent area, or create a VIP tent/reception space for those willing to spare the coin for the rights.
And while they are at it, they should better light the space used for the kids zone.
