It may have been a bad week for the MAC, but at least we didn't have any losses to any I-AA teams like schools from the Big 12, ACC and Mountain West did. Colorado was beaten at home by Montana State, Duke was shutout at home by Richmond and New Mexico lost at home to Portland State. There was almost another I-AA schocker in the Big 12, when Kansas State escaped with a one-point win over Illinois State when ISU went for two for the win and didn't convert.
Just goes to show, you've gotta be ready to play no matter who you face.
Bad week for MAC, but at least the I-AA bug didn't get us

I don't know if I would call it a bad week for the MAC. Obviously, it would have been nice to see more victories, however you had 4 MAC schools play very respectable against big conference competition, so kudos to BG, Toledo, Akron, NIU and Central Michigan for taking the high road and beginning with difficult non-conference games. I understand no one likes moral victories, but honestly, what's more helpful for a program, the exposure in a tough loss to Wisconsin, or a win against Tennesee-Martin? I understand that to have this league shed the "mid major" label we need to consistently win these BCS non conference games as the league did in 2003, however I don't think the MAC has any reason to hang it's head over this weekend and I anticipate a competitive year from this league and alot of non-conference wins in the next couple weeks. I just hope the parity of the league doesn't reflect negatively on the MAC, if several solid teams are just beating up on each other although they may be better than their record shows, especially those playing tough non conference schedules such as BG.
