Barnes MAC East Offensive POW - now what

I suppose this kind of goes along with the poll about what to do with Freddie as far as the QB position goes, but bgsufalcons.com has brief article about Freddie being named MAC East offensive player of the week - which raises the question as to what to do with him now. Of course to answer that question one must assume that AT will be at quarterback this weekend against Buffalo, but Freddie is too talented to stand on the sidelines with a clip board in hand - I see him as a Ted Ginn-like player (yes I know Ginn has way more speed) - but we need to find a way to get Freddie the ball. Put him in the backfield, flanker.. put him at wideout on some plays..
any thoughts?

Just get the kid on the field. I was very impressed with his abilities and for his first start against that D? AT should be the starter but Freddie needs to be on the field. What a horrible problem to have.

I feel much better knowing if AT goes down (God forbid) or isn't effective, Freddie can step right in and go. How about both on the field at the same time throwing passes?

I think Coach will have a plan to use him as much as possible.

Freddie must be on the field. He's too good of an athlete not to be. I really liked what I saw out of Freddie this Saturday, but I'm still not convinced he has enough arm to really be a legit QB. That said, if Turner looks like he did last year I'd have no problems with him being on a veyr short leash.

Freddie Barnes made some plays last Saturday and looked like a leader. If we get a better effort from our defense and/or Brantley actually catches a ball that game would've been much closer.

the game would have been much closer if we didn't run that stupid punt formation - though that's been covered in another thread..
and yes Freak - what a problem to have! I just hope Coach B figures out a way to get them both on the field at the same time.

brantley woulda been out of bounds even if he had caught it because the ball wasnt thrown close enough to the sideline. brantley had a hell of a game and looked like our best reciever.

Not so fast my friend - I watched the play several times on my DVR.. if he catches that ball he has a pretty good chance of dragging one foot inbounds..
D-1 wideouts have to make that catch

That's what I thought too, WCF. I rewound the tape 5 or 6 times (yes, I'm from the VHS age and still in it. LOL!) and it would have been close. It looked like his right foot could have been on the line but his left would have easily been in bounds. Brantley should have made the catch anyway. It was right in his bread basket. He had a nice game but as a 5th Yr SR, ya gotta come up with that catch.

Amen - and nothin' wrong with the VCR age - the only reason I left it was because I needed to get the DVR to get the digital cable - which in turn, enabled me to buy ESPN game plan, so I could watch Saturday's game.. so there was good reason for it.

He would have been in? Really? I haven't watched the tape, but from watching live, it looked like he was stepping on the line as the ball was thrown. Interesting.

Actually, all this time I thought he *did* catch it, but was OB. Hmmm...

Another thought... remember how the big hype last year was the "two-headed RB"?? I think Macon/Barnes might have just replaced the "Pope/Lane" idea that got derailed early last year.

How about Barnes playing like Magner did a couple of years ago? Throwing passes from the wide out position and also lining up in the back field for a direct snap from center with Turner split out wide? Can Barnes catch and play a wide out spot? I don't know...anyone know? I would love to see him do like Magner did against Kent State when he was playing QB and never threw the ball once. Just ran it down their throats. Him being in the game opens up a ton of things we can do. Run, catch, decoy, throw!!!
