The notion of orange jerseys is only about ten years old.
(I forget the year exactly; I think Gary Blackney was the one who made the switch, and he might have been playing with it as early as 1992).
Before that, way back way before Doyt Perry -- way back before Paul Brown organized an All-American Football Conference team in Cleveland -- it was always brown.
My 1991 Team Pic has us in Brown Uni's at the begining of the season. That was the last time those jerseys were ever worn. For the first game we came out in the new orange jersey, white pants. Our pictures were re-taken later that year when we won the MAC in the orange jersey.
I think the Brown jerseys are okay, but I much prefer the orange ones. I still prefer the older style over the newest...the ones without the brown triangles on the sides.
Well, perhaps it is because I am new to following BG football, but I thought that the brown jerseys with white pants and orange helmets looked Fan-Freakin-Tastic last Saturday. It may have been the coordination with the Venue too, but that would fit at the Doyt as well.
Looking forward to my first game at the Doyt this Saturday!!

They do look better with white pants than with the orange pants we wore against Toledo (because the jersey has no orange in it), but I would like to see us with a jersey that contains both of our primary school colors.
DS,
Interesting that you mentioned this...my brother, who caused much furor on AZZ a few years ago with some of his comments, e-mailed me with something to the effect, " Is BG interested in making Oregon's uni's the 2nd worst looking?"....but my son, the Hudson Lacrosse coach, who picks out uni's and asstd. equipment virtually every year, said that he felt the brown jersies needed some ORANGE trim along the white shoulder area and/or around the letters to better set off the combos.
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)
I love the brown jerseys and agree maybe a little orange on the Bowling Green or perhaps having the shoulder numbers in orange would help, but that said the jerseys are meant to be throwbacks and they replicate the jerseys worn in the 70s almost to a tee...or tea... or t.
That said, on Sat. vs. Wisconsin BG did add a little orange trim that wasn't there for the Toledo game last year- the MAC logo was there in orange and provided some orange to the tops. I think the brown with white pants looks very sharp, and hope they use it as an alternate in 'big' games- I would think the only other possibilities this season would be vs. Miami, MACC, or Bowl.
