predictions

Post by anthony e »

I was one of the many ones last week impressed with our effort against
Wisconsin. However, after reading others thoughts on the game, it
seems that we are going to have a long season. I hope I am wrong.
One of the areas that is constantly a problem is the kicking game.
All of this talk of greatness in the kicking game reminds me of last years
teams inabilty to make the cut. Block punts, negative punting averages,
and kickoffs returned for touchdowns is a major problem.

Here is my predictions for the rest of the year.

FIU-I think this team will beat us this week.
Kent-Maybe a closer game than expected. But I am predicting a win.
Ohio-Much better and I am predicting a loss.
Ohio State- a loss.
Eastern Michigan-a win, but closer than expected.
Central Michigan-loss.
Temple-win, but it might be close.
Miami-win.
Akron-loss.
Toledo-loss.

Akron to me, is the best MAC team this year. 5-7.

That could easily be the way it works out. I do think we win against FIU, but other than that, those are all plausible scenarios.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's how it plays out.

If we don't fix special teams and improve play calling, we won't win 4 more games all year. We could probably only beat Temple and Kent if we play and coach like we did yesterday.

Here's what I feel...

FIU - Beatable if mistakes on ST's are minimal, BGSU win
Kent State - Win by 2-3 TD's
Ohio - Impressed by their NIU win, but BG can stop running game, so we'll see how that plays out, BG wins if they can The Bobkitties option game
Ohio State - Might be an ugly one
EMU - Homecoming, a BGSU win by 2-3 scores
CMU - Another that could go either way...CMU looked good vs. BC but made a lot of mistakes vs. Michigan...tough road game so I say a close loss
Miami U. - Same team as we are...finding out who they are and what improvements they need to make, it'll be a tight one, especially with the rivalry. BGSU wins by a TD.
Akron - The game for the MAC East, IMO, and I think Akron takes the cake.
UT - More of a rebuilding year than us, UT will be a favorite at home but I feel that BGSU will get a big win that could squeak them into the MACC.

Honestly, every game but the OSU one can go either way. I'm not going to judge this team on one game, but mistakes need to be kept to a minimal.

Anything is possible right now. We are good enough on the OL and D to win the rest of our games this season minus OSU. We are bad enough on ST's to lose all of our games this year minus Temple and Kent. My stab at it...

FIU - win
Kent- win
Ohio- loss
OSU- loss
EMU- win
CMU- win (they are sooo poorly coached as well)
MU- win
Ak- loss
UT- loss

6-6 and Brandon acts half mad, but has a smirk on his face and says this as his post game quote at the end of the year "Its a good sign for your program when you dont have a losing season with a young team and you are still disappointed, but I think we'll be a force next year in the MAC Easy I mean East."
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!

Allow me to refer back to 3 weeks ago when I did my predictions for the 2006 season. They looked like this.

Wisconsin - L
Buffalo - W
Florida International - W
Kent State - W
Ohio - W
Ohio State - L
Eastern Michigan - W
Central Michigan - L
Temple - W
Akron - W
Miami - W
Toledo - L
Northern Illinois (MAC Championship - L

So far, I am two for two on picks, and I don't see any reason to change any of the games I've called. Honestly, I'm not as worried about the special teams as most of you are, I am confident that will correct fairly quickly the next few games. With our offense and defense playing the way they are right now, we'll be tough to beat. Sure, Ohio and Akron look pretty good right now, but Toledo and Central Michigan aren't looking so hot. so that pretty much evens out the potential W-L differential.

I agree with everything you said...except one thing. The ST's. I kept saying the ST's would get better and things will be corrected but until I actually SEE the improvement, I have to disagree. I love the way the D has been playing and hopefully the staff will open up the O playbook more much more than they have. BUT, the ST's need a freaking major overhaul. IF ST's get corrected, I can see us beating every team on the sked except one. This BG team is too young to hang with that kind of firepower this year. IF they don't get corrected....I don't want to think that way.

Offensively this team could be the class of the MAC. Count the number of catches by our WR's who have played before this season and then tell me that offense wont open up. turner is going to be in Harris/Jacobs class by year 2

The following is based upon BG not giving each team a hardy 14pts a game all wraped up nice and neat from our special teams

FIU - win
Kent- win
Ohio- win
OSU- loss
EMU- win
CMU- win (they are sooo poorly coached as well)
MU- win
Ak- win
UT- loss

MACC win\

If we dont fix Spec teams or at least, the very least go to a standard punt formation...turn 1/2 of those wins to L

Well, by correcting, I meant that the special teams wouldn't be giving up 2 touchdowns a game on kickoff returns/blocked punts, and limiting teams to maybe only one sizeable return per game. If we didn't give away 15 points in regulation to the opposition (including the one missed PAT in regulation) we probably would have rolled Buffalo, or at least won comfortably.

If you look at the statistics and the law of averages, there's just no way we will be giving up 2 TDs on ST's per game this season. No freaking way. Even if we did, the only wins I would take away from us are Akron and Ohio, that's how little I think of the remaining teams we play.

Uh.....you wanna bet. I see your point but from what I've seen so far, I could very easily see us giving up at least 1 TD per game by ST's gaffes.
