Hang in there kid....keep your chin up, and once they get you some coverage show them what you can do.

We've got faith in ya.

Fair enough, can't punt when the world is about to tackle you.

I agree. We still have no clue what this kid can do when given normal punting circumstances. I just hope he gets some soon.

I can't wait until the whole STs problems are solved and we can actually see what Rojas can do. I just hope that they get solved soon!!

I'll toss my support in here as well. I liked what I saw on the kicking end of the one time we lined up in a decent formation. Here's hoping we get our execution/personnel issues worked out and give the kid a chance to show us what he's got.

I'm with all of you too. I don't think many, if any of us, on here are bothered by "who" is punting, it's "how" were are punting that's got us all ticked off. That formation hasn't worked consistently since we started using it. Last year we were left holding our breath when we used it and many probably thought we had seen the last of it. This year, not only are we still trying to hold our breath, our breath is being taken right from our lungs. Both punt blocks for TDs had no chance. In the Wisconsin game, the guy that blocked it came storming right in. In the Buffalo game, the snap was high and that basically did the punt in right from the get-go. Both times however, the punt was blocked from the right side. Last year we had guys leaping over the three-man wall and they were still getting pieces of the punts.

About Rojas, and Ellis for that matter, we're stoked to have both these kids on campus. Now if our coaches would just give Rojas a formation that he isn't running for his life to get a kick away in, and if Ellis can get his PAT's and FG's up in the air, our special teams could finally get back to being respectable again.

if the blocking scheme ever gets figured out...this kid will be fine...there is a reason he was the #1 punter recruited out of high school, we just need to block.

He's got the kind of leg we haven't seen since Chris Shales led the nation in punting back in aught six...ok it was more like 1990..and I don't know if he fininshed the year number 1 or nmot...but he was up there all year.

Rojas has that kind of leg...he just needs spome space and a little more consistency with his drop. I'll bet a trip home to Miami will fix him right up..as will a chance to kick the ball without a 200+lb defender crashing into him

I agree....Rojas was the #1 punting prospect in the nation last year for a reason. He's been rattled by the lack of protection.

Give him time....

I think part of the problem is that people saw how bad our ST was last year and then heard the good news that we got Ellis/Rojas as #1s. They thought that things would be 100% better right away.

They are freshmen for pete's sake! I remember what I was like as a freshman at BGSU. We're expecting two teenagers to come in and save the world. They'll be great... but GIVE THEM TIME!

My freshman year consisted of hanging out in the hot tub chatting up girls.

I said all offseason that the transition from HS is not necessarily any easier on kickers than it is anyone else. People talking like our STs would be automatically fixed had their hopes too high. It is also true that our kickers were not the only problems on last year's STs units either. I think that is the biggest problem this year; Brandon seemed convinced that it was the guys doing the kicking and didn't deem it necessary to kick the rest.

How many times did he blame blocked kicks or long returns on the kickers solely last year?

Give these kids time, they CAN kick. They are not the most consistent yet, but they are freshmen, they'll learn. They've both got good legs that will gain consistency as they mature.

Rojas.....

Post by Falconboy »

I have a sneeking feeling that if Rojas had say gone to Ohio ST with their ST's, he'd have no problems with defenders in his face practically taking his leg off, and he'd be having no problems punting nice 48-50 yarder's. Could be way off but I don't think so.
