Please tell me the names of the coaches who coach to lead with your facemask...they are in serious jeopardy of lawsuits. Coaches should be coaching to lead with the shoulder with your head up.
going to have to agree to disagree on this one...

NEVER LEAD WITH YOUR SHOULDER! That was the first thing I was taught in football. From day one I was coached to put your facemsk in the other guy's sternam. You will miss if you try to lead with your shoulder. Look at the Browns until Cronnel(sp?) took over, they always tried that shoulder tackling and everyone ran all over them. You must square up and opponent, gather yourself, deliver your hit with your nose in his chest, wrap up, and drive through him.FlagCityFalcon wrote:Please tell me the names of the coaches who coach to lead with your facemask...they are in serious jeopardy of lawsuits. Yeah right girl!
Oorah!
Oorah!
Honestly, after watching that hit, I'm psyched. That was without a doubt the best form tackle Anotnio Smith has ever had. That is almost exactly how you're supposed to do it. Yes, he dipped his head at the very end and hit with the crown of his helmet, but other than that he kept his head up all the way through and wrapped up his arms to bring the ball carrier down.
It is absolutely correct to lead with the facemask. You keep your head up and keep your eye on the target that way. Leading with the shoulder is the uickest way to miss the tackle (and what Antonio has done oftentimes in the past). Leading with the crown of the helmet is bad because it risks neck injury to yourself, and possible helmet-to-helmet contact (causing penalties and/or concussions). At the very end Antonio looked to dip his head and hit with the crown first, which is dangerous, but other than that it was a nice tackle by him...and I've been a pretty big critic of his tackling. Hopefully this is a sign that he's learning how to tackle properly
I do agree that it likely should've been flagged. It also does look odd the angle he comes from to make the play. Although, I'll have to believe what others have said about him being blocked out of bounds then coming back towards the play....still looked awfully odd to see someone coming from that way.
