Some thoughts on a Sunday afternoon....

Post by Falconfreak90 »

Yes, I'm still stunned about what happened in Philly yesterday. I'm trying to figure out how we can outgain a team 407-256, have 27 first downs to their 12 and lose by 2 tds. Obviously, the answer is ST breakdowns and giving up big plays again. That has bitten us in the ass all year. Take Temple's 2 TD passes out of the equation and they had roughly 170 yards of total offense. ONE HUNDRED, SEVENTY yards of total offense. We pushed them around all day. We busted them good for 250 yards rushing. And we lost by two tds. UGH.

I don't know what's going to happen the rest of the season. BG will either come out looking for blood against Akron (and I hope like hell everyone in the program is so embarrassed by yesterday's result that they are) or they pack in the season, go thru the motions and finish 4-8. Every kid on this team has my support. Every one of them. Every one of them has had bad days and made mistakes at times but I will always support the kids. We have played a ton of freshman this year. We've had a ton of injuries to key players. The offense has not come around in the passing game like we wanted. The running game looks solid. We will play 8 road games this year. Yes, Wisky was a home game but we still had to travel. 8 games away from the Doyt. BG is struggling to keep it's head above water right now.

I've always supported Coach Brandon. Many, if not all of you, know I've been one of his biggest supporters. I will not join in on the "Fire Gregg Brandon" train. Not at this time. But, I am extremely disappointed in what happened yesterday and know this needs to improve in a big way quickly. The coaches must be held accountable. We knew what could happen this year after losing all the talent we did and facing a difficult schedule. Many thought 6-6 would be a good season. We're 4-5. The Temple loss is inexecusable and, unfortunately, the blame must go to the coaching staff. No way should we have lost that game. I'm sure I'll get hammered at work all week for this one.

As I see it, we've got 3 regular season games left. Every game is winnable and yet could be a loss at the same time. We're gonna find out what the program is made of and see who wants to step up their focus and win out. That goes for every person in the program. Yesterday was totally unacceptable. But yesterday is gone and nothing can be done about it now.

Akron got to the MACC last year after losing, 20-0, to winless Army at home halfway thru the season. Maybe I'm just looking for some hope in that. I'm just looking for anything right now.

Well, the Freaklings are going Trick or Treating in 25 minutes so I'm going to spend time with them. I hope everyone will still be making the trip over here next weekend for the Akron game. The kids on the team still need the support, no matter what. C ya's tomorrow.

GO FALCONS!!!

Sunday is evidently a good time for your thought processes, freak90. The subject matter is painful enough, notwithstanding my OSU alum father who has been phoning more than usual today, but I liked what you wrote. Bravo. One game at a time. I'll see what kind of kangaroo recipes I can dig up. Something well done to charred would do.

WELL DONE, FREAK!!!

Excellent post Freak. There are very few people who feel the losses like you do, but yet you are able to take some time and post a reasonable comment on the game, no matter how disappointing it was. You are one of the big reasons those kids come out each week. You are one of the reasons that they will overcome this loss and move on. Your support is the best and these kids and coaches need it!! Especially right now. As much as people are beating up on them, I am sure it is nothing compared to what they are doing to themselves over it. Hang in there Freak, things will get better. Still some games to be played and the fat lady hasn't sung yet!!!!

GO FOOTBALL!!
BEAT AKRON!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Thanks for being a voice of reason. Of course any BG fan would be disappointed in losing to freakin Temple, but it's a complete myth that firing the head coach would make any difference in the program anytime soon. It's an irrational overreaction to losing a few games we should have won. Brandon knows what he's doing, he's been coaching football at a high level for a long time. Everyone just has to be patient and let him figure it out with his young guys. All I know is that we have three games left against traditional rivals, and we need to exact revenge on two of them, and have to send our seniors out on a winning note at home. I'm pretty excited about that.

No doubt the special teams bit us in the ass yet again. But I'll tell you when I felt we were going to lose the game. When we drove 90-plus yards and fumbled going in for a TD and it resulted in a touchback. It was almost like a flashback of last year's game against Akron when Pope fumbled on 4th down going in for the TD. Another foot and that fumbled would have been a TD. But you've got to hang onto the ball. When that fumble happened, I felt the air leave the room, because we were answering their score after they tied the game, and then they went on to take the lead.

This team is an enigma of sorts. Perhaps the reason why some of us take the loses particularly hard is the fact that this team has shown signs of being a contender. Of being a good football team. But their obviously are consistancy issues. I think then it becomes easy to put the blame on the coaches- as in "why do they have to run this play...again" "why don't they just give it to Bullock every play" "Pull Turner"

I think we see tangible things to do or correct, but when you step back and look or take a deeper look there are a lot of things going on with this team and program.

We've got some playmakers. We've made some big plays. As fans we have higher expectations and long for the consistency we are missing. Hopefully it all comes together, if not we try to regroup and move on.

Well said Freak!!! I know it's been a tough season but what I do know is that I'll be there with Dave Sr. on the 15th for the Miami game and as usual we will still have a great time in BG. Go Falcons!!!!!
