I saw this thread:

and wondered if the attendance monster has reared its ugly head again? This has been a topic for...jeez....forever....are we in danger of being kicked down to AA? Seems unfair to a program that has won all its bowl games and can obviously compete historically against OOC D-1 opponents.
Attendance monster again?
Attendance monster again?

What the AD and his cohorts told us prior to the Temple game:
BG needs 20k at the Miami game or they are on probation. At which point they will need to meet 15k for 10 straight years to stay bowl eligible.
Everything is riding on 20k and change at the Miami game. They are going by tickets sold, so you can buy tickets and not attend the game, or businesses can buy blocks of tickets at a discount price. But BG needs to show 20k+ or things turn dire.

I know the way the crowd is counted has been brought up a few times, but I was in Oxford for the brawl between MU and BSU. It was cold and windy and the stadium was empty. Still they announced the crowd at over 17k. Maybe our guys can learn to count each person as one and a half like they do at Yager.
Go BG!

I think we should count like Temple did. 17,000 plus??????
Give me a break. They even barcode the tickets when you go in. I was up high and I could have counted the fans individually if I wasn't so mesmerized by the train wreck I was watching.
They did have a lot of corporate sponsors they kept thanking on the video boards, so maybe they buy up bushels of tickets.
And to victory engineer......I hope Coach Golden's wife is ok.
Now please go away.

What they told me the other day is you can choose to count tickets sold OR you can count actual attendance. Whichever you choose, you have to use for the whole season. The paid tickets for Wisconsin was much better than the actual attendance, so they are going that route. Temple obviously goes by tickets sold. I don't know anyone would use actual attendance, given that tickets sold is usually higher.

I thought that if we dont we get 20k we loose bowls durring the 10 year period and if we dont meet the 15k avg at any point in the 10 year probation we get droped right away, per the NCAA rules.Maclord wrote:What the AD and his cohorts told us prior to the Temple game:
