On the topic of third quarter plays... Back early in the Buffalo game we ran this nice option play with Winovich and Macon lined up in the backfield with Turner. It was a fake dive to Macon going right then an option left with Winovich being the pitch man. I have been calling for them to run this play more all season. So tonight when footing is horrendous and the only smart play is a dive or blast going straight ahead (nothing going sideways is working on a night like this), they finally call this play again. Great play, but there was no way it was working tonight.

The middle of the field was horrible. Why not run a few WR screens? Spread the field and make Miami defend sideline to sideline. We just kept running the same plays in the same quagmire...
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

My guess would be that bubble screens don't work when the DBs can't get good footing. :-D

My jaw dropped when I heard him say that. I can think of a few losses this season that have been this bad and even worse.

We lost this game because of coaching. We lost several other games because of coaching. It's as simple as that.

Now, what I want to know is what are we going to do about it?

This game was the last home game ever for a good group of seniors. It was a hard fought battle from beginning to the end. Our team NEVER gave up...It was a very emotional way for the seniors on this football team to go out, and Brandon did not want them to have to leave the Doyt with that taste in their mouth...I can see where this might of be one of the toughest losses as a coach. I dont think there is any need to jump on him for a comment like that during a very emotional time....

But then again I probably forgot who I am talkin to.....and people will think of any reason to make the coach look bad...

Unfortunately we don't have to. He gives us plenty of reasons without us even looking real hard.

I understand that, in no way am I a supporter of Gregg Brandon. I do not see him being fired before his contract is up so I dont really worry about complaining about it. I do understand why people dislike what he has done with the program. But to jump on him for a comment like that is stupid in my opinion....but go ahead and have at it.......

I guess my point is that if a 9-7 loss to a one-win Miami team in the conditions we had Wednesday night (with a chance to win the game at the end) is the worst loss he's ever been a part of, I question his philosophy on winning and losing. Does he not think that all the losses to teams we should have beaten (Kent, Temple, Akron, etc.) were worse than last night? I do. Losing those games should have fired him the hell up for the rest of the season and forced him to make coaching changes or better decisions for the remainder of the season. He obviously did not and Ohio's going to a bowl game and we're faced with a continued downward spiral.

The kids played hard. They deserved to win. The coaches did not put them in a position to win. I question the coaching decisions. The players are questioning the coaching decisions. Coach Brandon makes himself look bad week after week with the decisions he makes and the things he says. It's okay to have this dialogue!

I think this is an important point. If Brandon has lost this team, and it's starting to sound and look as if he has, a change needs to be made after the Toledo game. Buyout be damned.

Suck it up and pay the 250k now, or prepare to deal with 2 more awful seasons and a lame duck coach that the players don't support or believe in. Doesn't that sound like fun for everybody.

Then how are we going to pay for field turf?

Seems to me that the unimaginative play calling started about the time that Stud became the OC. I have nothing against Stud, but it's his offense now.

I listened to HawkTawk, the weekly radio talk show about everything Miami, last night. Shane Montgomery stated it was the worst conditions he had ever seen in his 20 years of college football. He stated they basically throw out the game plan and playbook and tried to think of ways to work in the mire of mud.

With the opposing/winning coach talking about the game in this manner, how do you really use this game in anyway, shape, or form to call for Brandon's head.

If you want to hear what Shane had to say.... go to iTunes and download the podcast.

Well, first off, most people's opinion of Brandon has very little to do with any single game.

But, to answer the question, simply listen to what he said: "Tried to think of ways to work in the mud". He is saying that this game came down to coaching and making adjustments on the fly. If a young and inexperienced head coach, who had piloted his storied team to a 1-9 record, can so easily outcoach Gregg Brandon, well, what does that say about Gregg Brandon?
