Rocket Science and observations:
“You just can’t turn the ball over like that, and expect to win,” Toledo junior quarterback Bruce Gradkowski said.
*************
His staggering and deep insight impresses me.
“You have to play smart against a good team, and we just gave them too many chances — too many to even count.”
***************
Why do I find that so easy to believe?
“You give a team that many chances, and you will come up short,” UT head coach Tom Amstutz said
*****************
Short....or fat.
“You can’t have that many turnovers.”
*****************
". . . turnovers. .......OR cupcakes, burgers, loafs of bread and mutton, its all mine I tell you!"
"Gradkowski lost his footing on a scramble and was down at the 25, and then a sack pushed the ball to the 34, where UT faced fourth-and-24.
Gradkowski looked long before hitting Scooter McDougle with a screen pass, and McDougle was stopped at the 24 by a pack of Miami tacklers."
*********************
Mark my words: When you know what UT is going to do, or have their back against the wall, they become horribly predictable. Combined with an already simplistic offense, this kind of thing happens. Their QB is not a truly comprehensive passing threat, nor real scramble threat. He is only good at running their system. This limits how much they really can change up and challenge defenses.
"hit wide receiver Ryne Robinson, a sophomore from Toledo Central Catholic, streaking over the middle for a 26-yard gain to the 1."
"A couple of Toledo kids helped make it a rough night for the Rockets. Robinson had nine catches for 146 yards, while placekicker Jared Parseghian from St. John’s Jesuit had a pair of field goals for the RedHawks. Robinson, just a sophomore, went over the 1,000-yard mark in receiving yards for his career in the game."
***********************
Notice a trend here? Granted, some had family reasons to attend Miami, but UT can't even own its own back yard in recruiting. I exclude BG from this since we do better than UT far and wide and we clearly don't have the needs they do.
"Toledo served up the first of three first-half turnovers . . . . The Rockets coughed up the ball again two plays later . . . . by converting a fourth-down play. . . who had hit all 37 of his extra-point kicks . . . had his try deflected, . . . . following another Toledo turnover. . . . .but their drive ended on a failed fourth-down play . . . .After stuffing the Rockets on a fourth-down . . . . The Rockets needed to convert a fourth-down play."
*********************
Go rrrrRRRRROCKETS! *gag*
“We just didn't’t get enough turnovers,” Broussard said.
*******************************
Tell him about the rabbits, tell him about the rabbits........
“The statistics show how the game was won. In big games, the turnovers always make the difference.”
****************************
....and he will hug him, and squeeze him, and call him George!
That he thinks they lost because they didn't get enough turnovers makes my point that the Rockets are in denial. They lost because their offense couldn't move the ball and lost it far too much.
Rocket notes: The entire team voted by absentee ballot. They all voted for Bush or Kerry since write-in candidates were obviously an impossibility. Several players naturally confused their absentee ballots with their class attendance sheets and wound up voting for Introduction to Remedial Pre Algebra 1-three times!
