I thought about that Tricky but I didn't want to do anything wrong under the NCAA guidelines. I have a brochure from the BG athletic Dept that I wanna check when I get home. Seems there are rules about boosters talking with HS kids...anyone in the know, can you confirm this?

IF it's ok to talk to the kid, I'll tell him personally to go to BG when Wadsworth comes to Green!

Mike,
Don't know for SURE, but I believe, as Falcon Club members, we're considered boosters and "reps" of BG...hence, not allowed contact of the type you guys are talking about. You're right in checking out the book from FC re: this issue.... And I agree with you strongly that we need to get a solid kicker on scholarship if at all possible... I even emailed G.B. about a kid from Colorado last year. (brother of my son's girlfriend) who did pretty well out there, thin air notwithstanding.... he's at a school down south if I recall...not sure if he's playing or not.

DEFINITELY a NO NO!!!!!!

You are allowed no more than a casual hello, if you would happen to see a recruit.

Is that because he's a Falcon Club member or because he's a fan? Can anyone provide a link to NCAA guidelines?

Timchenko is not a guy with leg strengh that lacks accuracy and he is not an accurate guy that lacks distance. He is just a poor kicker. This is one area where I am really disappointed in Greg Brandon. Timchenko has been on the team for years now. Why was there not more effort to recruit or develop someone else before Suisham left? I think there is a good chance that its going to cost us a game this year because Brandon will have go for a 4th and 6 on the 30 yd line in a 1 point game - and that's not to mention the favorable field position the opposition gets on EVERY kickoff.

Some information from Northern Iowa:

http://unipanthers.collegesports.com/co ... sters.html

"Booster" probaly includes:

-- Anyone who has ever purchased season tickets.
-- Anyone who has ever employed by the university. (While this is stretching it just a bit, I believe The BG News would count.)
-- Anyone who has ever been a member of the Falcon Club
-- Anyone who has ever donated to athletics (e.g., the Sebo Center project).

I suppose if the NCAA could prove you bought a Falcon Club 50/50 raffle ticket that technically might count. Not sure.

UNI also says a booster is anyone who has:

"ever contacted (by letter, telephone, or in person) a high school student, grades 9-12, for the purpose of encouraging the student to participate in the athletics program of UNI."

And it appears this kind of contact violates NCAA rules by default (unless you are friends or family).

Maybe my interpretation is too tough. I'm only glancing at this.

In any case, let's be careful out there. As O&B said, let the coaches do the recruiting.

I wouold guess that even being a member of AZZ could be used to prove that you are a booster of BG athletics!

As mentioned above.................Let the coaches do the recruiting, but you can feed "them" all the information you have available. They'll sort out the wheat from the chaff!!!!

So it never monsoons in S.Florida?

With 2 consecutive timeouts there wasn't enough time to go "kick a few" into the sideline netting? not enough time to try some real practice steps to the spot where ball would be placed.

I would think anyone of us with a tv audience and the chance to win the game on the line would have figured out exactly what the footing was going to be like.

At least come to the sidelines to scrub out the "stuck muck" in the cleats.

I'll accept that having 3rd down not move the ball over to the left hash was somebody else's problem, but damn....25 yarder!

i was thinking the same thing about the cleats. i kept looking for corey or someone else to bring him out a towel or something to get the mud out of his cleats... sure they probably would have been covered in muck again as soon as he stepped out there, but it couldn't have hurt.
