Navy Midshipmen

Post by WhoDeyBG »

Just saw a Navy fan post over on NCAAbbs that Navy and BG have agreed to a home and home for 07 and 09, with 07 at the Doyt. Waiting to hear "real" confirmation.

Does this mean we won't be playing Michigan next year?

The poster, who had cited zero sources to begin with, comes back with this:

"...aaaaaaaaaaand it looks like I might have jumped the gun a little. I guess it's still being discussed... Hopefully it wasn't a false alarm, as I think it'd be a great series. At least we know that we're talking, anyway.

Sorry about that, hope I don't look too much like an idiot."

Clemson would be AWESOME. There's a little town called Lake Hartwell in
Georgia where my grandmother owns a lakehouse. That house is where the post game party will be! Its only about an hour (if that) from Clemson. That would be an awesome trip.
Yeah right girl!

I see. Is this the kind of party that Granny is going to be living it up at, or is this the kind of party you hope Granny never knows actually happened, and for which there will be at least one copy of Yellow Pages to hand to help locate that specialist furniture polisher who happens to be on call on Sunday mornings when everyone wakes up to reality?

I am that poster. My source is the moderator of the Navy board, who maintains a list of future schedules on the site with the assistance of the Navy SID. After adding BG to 2007 & 2009, he took those games down later in the day saying that he was premature and that the deal has yet to be signed. I apologize for coming off like an airhead, but it was legitimate.

We already have Michigan and Furman on the schedule. There's no room for Navy.

Way to go, airhead.

But please keep us posted if they decide to make it official!

Welcome to the board. I really hope this happens. I will be at both games. I have ALWAYS wanted to take in a Navy home game.

I love Annapolis.

The home game against NAVY in 1994 was a great time. Granted it was a BG blow-out, but that was before NAVY's current rebound.

The NAVY alumni show in great numbers, the local ROTC departments had something of a odd line to walk. The Fly-over by F-16s was great as always. Its a truly historic program and its a honor of sorts to host them.

I've seen NAVY play at Notre Dame, the Midshipmen enjoyed the local tailgates with the time they had. Its a curious thing, they were at once a team to be beaten, but the nature of what those kids do, meant that the home-team fans treated the kids very differently. Playing the service academies is always an interesting and unique time.

The three things I find most exciting about Navy possibly coming to BG next year is:
1. It's a home game, period. After playing just four times in 12 outings last year at the Doyt, the more games we get at home, the better.
2. It's a I-A football program.
3. We get the front end of a home-and-home at the Doyt unlike some of the recent home-and-home series that we've started on the road and never saw a return game.
GO BG!!!
