While I am at it...Bowl Re-match weekend

I proposed this years ago. still think it would be a great idea.

What about a Bowl Re-match weekend. A way to build rivalries and have one weekend of great out of conference games. How it would work. Every team would be required not to schedule their games during the fifth week until they accept their bowl bid. With the 12th game added recently it would be fairly easy to do. The winner of the game...gets the home game. If youa re not in a bowl game...you are allowed to schedule whoever you wish.

What it would do...
1. Give the fans one great weekend of football.
2. Lead to brief (and maybe sustained) rivalries amongst teams that don't play often. It could builr relationships with teams like TCU and NIU.
3. Cause teams to have to play tougher schedules, and cause the big boys to play away games.
4. It would allow a greater variety of teams to go bowling. If the teams that made the bowls last year have as a result a tougher schedule...that tougher schedule may result in them not going bowling the next year. The Super Bowl team picks 32nd in the draft. It is one of the reasons there is even a draft. Spread the wealth. Some sort fo weight like that should be created to share the wealth a bit.
5. If a team like Boise State gets to play an Oklahoma then they get to play them again the next year....when Oklahoma would not likely schedule them. At home if they win. Even Better. Nevada gets to travel to Miami for a game.

The negative I see.
1. Ohio State and others don't like to share.
2. Teams like OSU, would not schedule teams like Texas

That's an interesting topic! I like the idea, personally, but I can see the BCS boys saying no. Good idea, though. It would be a good way to keep 1-A games on the schedule.

I think it would be a fun idea, but like you said in your second negative, it would almost eliminate all big time game scheduling. One of the biggest downfalls of the BCS, IMO, is that it creates a season where one loss basically eliminates you, and 2 does for sure. As a result very few BCS teams are playing a worthwhile OOC schedule. Most of them will schedule one big game, and then fill in the rest of their schedule with MAC, WAC, or Sunbelt teams.

I think you're right that if you created this bowl re-match weekend you would see the big boys not schedule a single decent OOC game, knowing that they would likely have a big game against a good opponent from that.

Sounds like a fun idea, but not sure it would ever fly.
