You may want to recheck...
Big Ten (7 games, BCS included)
BOWL ELIGIBLE
Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, Ohio St. Minnesota
ONE WIN AWAY
N'Western (Illinois, @Hawai'i)
Purdue (OSU, Indiana)
TWO WINS AWAY
Mich. St. (@PSU, @Hawai'i)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I only checked this one conference, because I knew of some flaws in your info, but you may want to re-check all of your numbers.
N'western is 2 wins away (Mich, Ill, Hawaii)
Mich St. is 3 wins away (Wisconsin, PSU, Hawaii)
Note: 12 game schedules must win 7 games, not 6, to be bowl eligible.

Here's another
SEC (8 games, including BCS)
BOWL ELIGIBLE
Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn, LSU, Alabama
ONE WIN AWAY
Florida (South Carolina, @Florida St.)
TWO WINS AWAY
Ole MIss (@Arkansas, @LSU, Miss. St.)
Arkansas (Ole Miss, @Miss St., LSU)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ole Miss and Arkansa are both 3 wins away with only 3 games remaining. It's not possible for both of them to get a bowl, because one of those games is against each other.

Teams that feel the need to fire their head coach in the middle of the season should automatically NOT be bowl eligible. I hope Florida loses those last two so its a non-issue, but if your administration quits on your coach with 3 or 4 games left in a season, why should you be rewarded with a bowl appearance?

I had that dream last Dec. 26th. It ended up pretty good.BGGrad01 wrote:My dream bowl scenario from CFN.com today:

Though where is their darling Toledo and Marshall at? Heh...
I still take CFN.com about as seriously as I take "Marmaduke", but its still a good "how much longer do I have to work?!" time waster....

I was thinking more along the lines of the almighty dollar. I would simply have to hop on I-75 to make it to Detroit. Travelling to California or Texas would be almost impossible for me. I don't care who we play or where we play, just as long as we get 1 (hopefully 2) more game after 11/23.bgmaggot00 wrote:Playing NWestern in Detroit is your Dream? Come on, lets at least take on someone new. I'd be pretty upset if we had the same game 2 years in a row.

no, seriously, they need 7. last year (and a couple years before that), everyone was playing a 12 game schedule, so you needed to only win 6. With the "extra" game this year at Hawaii, they need to win 7.BGSU_via_UDel wrote:nope you need 6 wins to be bowl eligible. NW were 6-6 last year when they entered the Motor City Bowl against us. So if you play a 12 game schedule you need 6 wins and if you play an 11 game schedule you need 6 wins. So, NW is only 1 win away and they will get it, they are playing everyone tough.

Just to be sure, straight from the NCAA 2003-04 POSTSEASON FOOTBALL HANDBOOK:
Deserving Winning Team
A deserving winning team is defined as one that wins a minimum of six games against Division I-A competition and has a record that includes more wins than losses. [Exception: Once every four years, a Division I-A institution may count a victory against a Division I-AA opponent that has averaged 60 financial aid awards equivalencies in football during the three previous academic years.] Only a conference champion may seek a waiver of these requirements.
During each year in which an institution is permitted to play 12 regular-season football games, an institution with a record of six wins and six losses may be selected for participation in a bowl game if that institution
is a member of a conference with which the bowl organization has a contractual affiliation, and there is no other team in that conference qualified for selection per Bylaw 30.9.2. Contracts between the conference and the bowl organization must be executed prior to the first contest of the 2003-04 season.
During a season in which an institution competes in 13 regular-season contests, the institution must have a record of seven wins, six losses or better, to qualify for bowl selection. Division I-A contests played in Hawaii are exempt from NCAA legislation limiting a season to 11 games, but this competition does count in the six-win requirement. An institution that participates in an exempt contest, however, must have more wins than losses against Division I-A opponents to be eligible to participate in a bowl game even if it meets the six-win requirement.
Waiver for Conference Champion
The NCAA Management Council may approve a waiver of the six victory requirement as noted in the provisions of Bylaw 30.9.2 in order to enable a conference champion to participate in a bowl game when the conference champion is scheduled contractually to participate in the game.
