BG Football future still looks bright

Post by daytonfalcon »

I've lurked around these boards for a year or two and I've really never had much to say. I use this site to get a lot of info about BG sports, but since I'm off of work due to an injury I have loads of time on my hands, so here goes.

I know that a lot of you dislike GB, but I still have faith that he is the right coach for us. Every coach has down years and struggles at one point or another. I have not forgotten that he led us to 2 bowl victories. We are loaded with young talent and I am excited for next year. Now, if a downward trend continues (as in hockey), I will change my position on GB. Our schedule next year will be awesome and I cannot wait for the Boise game! Go Falcons!!

Welcome to the board!

I guess I'll just politely disagree about GB. Your sigline says it best. Which way do you think Brandon is headed with the program?

My hope is that he is working hard this very second to improve every aspect of the program. If not, he has no business being a football coach at any level, head coach or assistant.

I have no doubt that he is working as hard as he can. I'm just not sure he's capable. I hope he can prove me wrong next year.

Welcome Dayton! You know...I am with you. I think anyone can ride high when they are winning...I think the true test of leadership is when you get knocked down, you pick yourself back up and go at it again. Now...Obviously I think we all would have liked GB dust himself off sooner, but hopefully now that we seem to be 4 games away from rock bottom after this year, I hope he comes back and makes the team hungrier and better prepared for next year. I'd like to see what the response is. Is this season a predictor of things to come, or was it a bump in the road. Let's wait and see before we start lighting the torches and storming the castle...

I hope GB watched the National Championship game closely. That is the offense the Falcons use to run, you know the one where GB was the Offensive Coordinator for. Lets get back to that again. We will have the personnel next season. Lets put it back in and go with it and stick with it. Don't bale out when things get rough. Spread the ball around and keep defenses off balance. Get rid of all this predictability. Seems like the defense knew what we were going to run before we did.

I agree that the future of Falcon Football looks bright. Coach Brandon has done some good recruiting the last 2-3 years and it will begin to really show up this next season. I know I am excited about the next 2 seasons.

I have my own (un)educated guesses about this, but I wonder if anybody around here knows for sure.

Who called plays when Urban was here and GB was OC? If it was GB, how much input did Urban have?

Who has called plays since GB took over as head coach? If it's been Stud, how much input did GB have?

Who calls the plays at Florida?

Spart, I am glad you made that point about Florida's offense because I was thinking the same thing. They had guys lined up all over the field and guys going in motion everywhere that the defense never knew what to do. The only motion we seemed to run last year was Winovich going back and forth behind the o-line, telegraphing that it was a running play with Barnes following Winovich's block. :?

Spart,

Corey's catch was one of the best I've ever seen. Even the houseful of OSU fans I watched the game with gave him props for that great catch.

I agree about returning to the offense we ran when GB was the OC. It certainly was fun to watch. Few teams could stop it. I miss the creativity that was used to have with our play calling since there seams to be no trickery anymore. It kind of makes me wonder how much control GB had over the offense when Urban was here.

Was anyone reminded in the Boise/Oklahoma game of when we beat Northwestern on a 2 point conversion with a reverse in Urban's first season?

Urban called the fake punt against Toledo. :(

I think GB called the plays, but the key to the game is the game plan. What will you call in certain situations? How aggressive will you be? Meyer obviously had a big hand in developing the game plan itself--and they reflected his philosophy of how to move the ball. Just as we do now when Stud calls the plays.

The talent is there. We'll see if it can be developed sufficienty to make a difference on the field. We're getting better players than we did before, but the same can be said for the rest of the conference.

The fact that two of the more highly regarded assistants on the staff have left is a tad disconcerting.

I think one thig is certain....we won't be able to use the "we're young" excuse next year.

IMO, we were no longer a "young" team when we lost 5 in a row to end the season.

Welcome to the board, dayton! I agree with you that BG football is not dead. I did see some disturbing things this year but have faith in GB. There are areas that need work and I sincerely want to see Coach get us back where we belong.

Most people here know how I feel about the current situation.

Looking forward to Signing Day, the spring game and the 2007 season...which cannot get here soon enough. Forget 06, get it done in 07.

Anyone notice how Florida has a "speedy spread offense" and when we run that offense it's "gimmicky." BCS = Brilliant! AOC = smoke and mirrors trickery...
