Finding a 12th regular-season opponent hasn't been easy for Michigan.

U-M athletic director Bill Martin confirmed Sunday that Eastern Michigan has agreed to fill the Wolverines' open date on Oct. 6, moving from its originally scheduled Sept. 1 date at Michigan Stadium.

Now Martin is busy trying to find a team for the opener on Sept. 1 that would give the Wolverines eight home games. They will open with four straight home games.

"We are looking at several options," Martin said. "That's my No. 1 priority."

One of the drawbacks of a 12-game regular season for Michigan is negotiating with opponents who want the Wolverines to schedule a home-and-away series. For the Wolverines, the idea is to play as many games at home and score big paydays of several million dollars each Saturday at Michigan Stadium.

"We need eight home games in order to pay the bills," Martin said.

Several sources have said Vanderbilt might open the season at Michigan for the second straight year, but the Commodores would need to adjust.

Its recently released schedule has Vanderbilt (4-8, 1-7 SEC last season) opening at home against Richmond on Sept. 1, one of eight home games. But playing at Michigan ensures a significant payday and national TV exposure.

Michigan won the opener against Vanderbilt last season and holds a 10-0-1 series record.

We need 8 home games to pay the bills?? What? Yeah, right. With over 100k seats and $50 a pop for a ticket how are they hurtin for money? Thats a load of crap. I'm sick of all these power conference teams being able to solidify themselves 8 home games every year while mid-major only get 5 or 6 at best. [/b]

Yeah, I know. You know what I'd be in favor of at least, would be to have all mid-majors join in an effort to start demanding these power conference teams to dole out more dough for us to keep coming to their stadiums year after year for no return game. They can afford it, with the $$ they make on stadium profits and donor money and BCS profits as well.

that'd be an idea...an extra fee for a 2nd game to be played in the same venue as the first. after all homefield advantage is part of football and these big teams deny us that right...thus we never are in the optimum situation in our most high-profile games.

I dont' know how it make them think less of us than they allready do, besides it may force them to start giving more 1 for 1's instead of enjoying 2 or 3 straight home games against us.

i just think alot of people see that bcs as a "stamp of quality" and if you seperate them into bcs division and division I then it looks like we weren't worthy of that stamp...it basicly makes us the new division IAA
