Boise State OFF schedule?
It's the same old thing with BG's coach and Administration. GB is scared to death of playing any team that could beat him (which should make him scared of all teams). He knows we will be totally outclassed by Boise. He didn't want to play the Buckeyes either. This crap has happened before. With any little bit of pressure from the conference, we are all too pleased to buckle. I blame Sidney for our lack of commitment to athletics. So long as he is here, we will never overcome.
That sucks. It obviously means that we not only lose the Boise home game, but replace it with a third OOC road game.Falconfreak90 wrote:I talked with a person associated with BG Athletics just the other day and was told to expect FIVE home games for the 2007 season.

I am familiar with that rule. But is it still in effect with the 12 game schedule? I don't recall any teams playing 13 games last year. I was thinking that the NCAA would just expect teams traveling to Hawaii to make that 12th game a home game.SDbronco wrote:We get up to 5 OOC games this year because we play at Hawaii. For those that don't know, there is a Hawaii rule that allows any team that plays @ UH to play an extra OOC game to make up for the travel expenses.

We still have Navy, Minnesota and Boston College on the OOC slate, so it's not like we're scheduling a bunch of drecks. Maybe a check from Boise State and another payday game on the road is the price we have to pay for a new fieldbobio wrote:It's the same old thing with BG's coach and Administration. Me, too. That would bite.Falconfreak90 wrote:I talked with a person associated with BG Athletics just the other day and was told to expect FIVE home games for the 2007 season. Hmmmm.....
I sure want SIX home games....
I don't agree we're afraid to play someone we could lose to, as Flipper notes. In fact, one cupcake is fine with me. It should just be a HOME cupcake.
I thought Christopher made this big deal about six home games.
I know that Boise needs to do what is best for them, but it would be a shame to see this game taken off our schedule. It would be nice to see our team play somebody who draws some attention here in the Doyt.
Plus, the fans that have chimed in on these threads (at least one of them anyway) have been really cool about things. We know that our program was in a funk last year, and we haven't had it rubbed in our faces once by them.
If only all fans were like that...
Just my thoughts on the matter.

FYI, I posed the question of not playing Boise St over at broncocountry, com and here is what they are saying:
http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?S=336#S=33 ... 6&T=106845
Seems like more than one person over there also thinks they fulfilled their obligation to play a game at BG by the MAC letting them play Utah last year. That doesn't make any sense to me.

Yes, that rule is still in effect. With the addition of the 12th game last year, I'm not sure that everyone who plays @ Hawaii will actually add the 13th game though. Teams that play in a conference championship game also play 13 games in a season.Warthog wrote:I am familiar with that rule. But is it still in effect with the 12 game schedule? I hope you guys play 13 games this season. (before your bowl game)
Here is the way that I understood that it went down, and how it stands now. (I could be wrong but I think this is pretty accurate).Warthog wrote:FYI, I posed the question of not playing Boise St over at broncocountry, com and here is what they are saying:

2005: BGSU Played the first game of a 2 game series at Boise State. A second 2 game series is planned (making a 4 game series)
2006: The MAC and the MWC contacted the WAC and BSU with a complicated request. It seems that OHIO needed out of a game with Utah. Utah wanted the MAC to find them a suitable opponant. The MAC set up a deal whereby BSU would take the @Utah game. The MAC also promised to send another upper tier MAC team to Boise in 2007 (that is what made it worth BSU's while). The MAC also arranged for a different home game for BGSU last year. (I heard early that it was supposed to be a good team @ home)
The first series is over and BSU is owed a home game from a MAC opponant by the MAC conference. (As of yet the MAC has not delivered an opponant as far as anyone knows)
2007: The second 1-1 is set to start between BSU and BGSU, with BSU playing at BGSU first and a return game scheduled for 2008.
As far as the 2 teams go, it will end up as more of a 2-1 (thank OHIO or your conference leadership for that one).
In this whole deal it seems like BGSU got the short end of the stick. I guess Utah didn't come out to great either with a 36-3 home loss.
I still hope the game happens but it may depend on the MAC delivering on the opponant for the extra home game. Any ideas who they may be sending to Boise this year?
There is no evidence to support this. Say what you will about Gregg Brandon, but the man plays a brutal OOC schedule every year.bobio wrote:It's the same old thing with BG's coach and Administration. Oklahoma, Ohio State twice (coming off a national championship game and prior to appearing in a national championship game), Wisconsin twice (23-4 combined record), Purdue at their high point and the hottest, most feared non-BCS team in the country in Boise. This year, it's bowl teams from the Big 10 and ACC plus an 8 win Navy team. Yes, what a truly weak schedule!
Outclassed by Boise? Uh, yeah, they did kind of win a BCS Bowl Game last year and could probably outclass about 90% of the teams in Division IA. And I don't know any coach in their right mind who would have been giddy to play an Ohio State team predicted by everyone to steamroll to the national championship. The bottom line is they did play and competed at a very high level.
What was Urban Meyer's OOC: Missouri, Kansas, South Florida and Northwestern?

Totally agree on all counts. Brandon has a "take-on-all-comers" approach to scheduling, and I love it. There might also be some "get as much money as we can for payday beatings" mixed in there, but it's all well and good. I like to see us playing the top teams in the country as much as possible.JoeFalcon wrote:There is no evidence to support this. Those fans were just as classy in Boise as well. I thought the BSU and Oklahoma fans were fantastic and treated us great.mmisbg wrote:Plus, the fans that have chimed in on these threads (at least one of them anyway) have been really cool about things. And shame on JoeFalcon for bashing the OCC schedule of the coach who could walk on water, leap tall buildings in a single bound, stop world hunger, and was responsible for the ill-conceived fake punt call in the Toledo(?) game.

They hosed us on the spot with that fake punt. We often get hosed by the refs against Toledo. In 2004 they called Mayberry for a 3rd pass interference at their place on a ball that the WR couldn't have caught if here 8 feet tall. UT went on to a pivotal score. In 2005 Mayberry gets a third down personal fould callfor a blow to the head of the UT WR when he was diving on the ground to pick off an errant pass. UT goes onto score again in ta game that went to OT.

hi guys,
i saw the thread on broncocountry, and i think it'd be a shame not to fulfill our obligation for a return game. i'm originally from the midwest, and have a friend who's a BGSU grad who still lives in toledo, so i was even considering a trip to BG next year to attend the game, if funds permit.
i sure hope BSU isn't trying to get out of the game for some reason. knowing our AD, he's a true class guy, and i'd be surprised if that was the case.
the ESPN rumor has been brought up even before the fiesta bowl, and after that game it seems the rumors have gathered even more steam. since we have one more spot to fill in our schedule, i'd be surprised if the alleged "ESPN game" replaces BGSU; if anything, it seems that our game with Weber State would be the one in jeopardy.
here's one bronco fan hoping to see BSU in ohio next season.
