What do the academics of a conference have to do with the athletic teams a school may or may not have?
I don't want the political answer in that all the schools should be the same, because it isn't as if the Big East is composed of similiar types of schools.
WKU wuld bring a good men's basketball program, a rabid following of fans, and althought I haven't looked at any of their other sports teams I don't think the school is looking to cut any other teams with their move from I-AA to I-A and the fact is they probably have to add another women's team.

Academics matter because the university presidents say they do. It doesn't matter if you or I like the "political" answer or not, because they get to determine the criteria, for good or ill.
I've been pretty vocal here and on the MAC board in support of WKU being added. But the university presidents apparently don't lend much credence to my recommendations. 8)

If you think deeply about it, wouldn't you have to acknowledge it matters a little?redskins4ever wrote:What do the academics of a conference have to do with the athletic teams a school may or may not have?

Wouldn't Eastern Michigan be easier to take as a member of the MAC if that institution had Miami's prestige?

I just got back in the USA today and before I left I thought that when I came home if Boise was visiting the Doyt I'd be happy with just about anything else. No NIU, opening against Temple, a Friday afternooner against Toledo, a filler for BCS schools, nothing on national TV, 5 home games:
The program is officially a Division I-AA shouldabe.

It matters if... you are an Ivy League School and you don't give out scholarships... wink wink... nudge nudge.Schadenfreude wrote:If you think deeply about it, wouldn't you have to acknowledge it matters a little?redskins4ever wrote:What do the academics of a conference have to do with the athletic teams a school may or may not have?

As for academics... don't all universities attempt to be premiere educators? Otherwise they wouldn't get students?
If academics matter... why do OSU, MSU, UM, and Northwestern all play in the same football conference? UM and Northwestern are vastly superior in their undergraduate educations then OSU and MSU...
the rebuttle... but these other schools are great research institutions... well... guess what.. are you football players undergraduates? or are they graduate students?
Blah blah blah... I am sick of the MAC and thier idiotic decisions.
As an Ohio State fan, you can't seriously be laughing at our schedule given who the Buckeyes have for OOC games. Two MAC teams, a I-AA team and a craptastic Washington team? That is hilarious. One BCS team out of four games. We can at least say we are playing three BCS team in our OOC schedule.tekekini wrote:hahaha have a fun boring football season once again.
thats the most horrible home schedule ever hahaha
enjoy
i will be laughing for a while

He said he was laughing-not laughing at the Falcons. I suspect he is still laughing hysterically after the meltdown by Columbus Tech during their little bowl game. $100 million + budget and they still can't win a championship or come up with a decent schedule.Warthog wrote:As an Ohio State fan, you can't seriously be laughing at our schedule given who the Buckeyes have for OOC games. Just want to apologize for being a real prick to some of you guys of the last year. There is no real excuse for it. Thank you to the many great folks that have been positive. As a Temple fan we have been beaten down for years and are used to poor treatment from our Conference brethren, warranted or not. As fans all we can really do is donate what we can afford and attend every game we can. We see a real light at the end of the tunnel and are thankful for acceptance into a truly great conference. Thanks for putting up with this schedule BS and hopefully as the year’s progress towards fall we are able to represent the MAC and turn all the negatives into positives for all the institutions. Thank you and good luck.
