Does it really matter who is putting the turf in and how much it costs? The only thing that matters is that it will be in for the fall. Now, can we go back discuss more important things like the craptacular schedule, Brandon and special teams, what Tom Numnutz had for dinner or is bare better than a bacon strip?

No NCAA rules about field color -- I went to wikipedia to learn more about the smurf turf and it said there was no NCAA rule about field color. I then went to the NCAA rules and found that this is true. ORANGE FIELD TURF with brown endzones!

FR-22 RULE 1 / THE GAME, FIELD, PLAYERS AND EQUIPMENT
SECTION 2. The Field
Dimensions
ARTICLE 1. The field shall be a rectangular area with dimensions, lines,
zones, goals and pylons as indicated and titled in the diagrams on pages
FR-18-19.
a. All field-dimension lines shown must be marked 4 inches in width
with a white, nontoxic material that is not injurious to the eyes or skin
(Exceptions: Sidelines and end lines may exceed 4 inches in width, goal
lines may be 4 or 8 inches in width, and Rule 1-2-1-g).
b. Twenty-four inch short yard-line extensions, four inches inside the
sidelines and at the inbounds lines, are mandatory; and all yard lines
shall be four inches from the sidelines (Rule 2-11-4).
c. A solid white area between the sideline and the coaching line is
mandatory.
d. White field markings or contrasting decorative markings (e.g., logos,
team names, emblems, event, etc.) are permissible in the end zones but
shall not be closer than four feet to any line.
e. Contrasting coloring in the end zones may abut any line.
f. Contrasting decorative markings are permissible within the sidelines and
between the goal lines but shall not obliterate yard lines, goal lines or
sidelines.
g. Goal lines may be of one contrasting color from the white lines.
h. Advertising is prohibited on the field [Exceptions: (1) Permitted for any
game not played in-season when the sponsor is associated with the name
of that game, and (2) NCAA Football logo].
i. White field yard-line numbers no larger than 6 feet in height and 4 feet
in width, with the tops of the numbers nine yards from the sidelines, are
recommended.
j. White directional arrows next to the field numbers (except the 50)
indicating the direction toward the nearest goal line are recommended.
The arrow is a triangle with an 18-inch base and two sides that are 36
inches each.

Huh. She makes a pretty good case.

And I can say this: A brown field would be a natrual color -- similar to what we could get by putting a tarp on the field for days on end and then pulling it off right before game time.

I am in the minority here.

I think:

Boise's field looks ridiculous.
So would ours in orange or brown.
If there isn't a rule against colored field, there should be.

There isn't a rule agianst wearing brown shoes with a tuxedo...but only a philistine would do so. An orange field? Sure, while we're at it let's redo Frieda's costume to make her look like a french whore.

I'm sort of on the fence.

I wanted to stick with grass. I lost.

I like being different. But there is such a thing as too different.

Orange would be way too much -- like having to stare into the sun for three hours at a time.

Brown would be... different. Very 70s.

Not that there is anything wrong with that.

I seem to recall the NCAA put in some sort of rule after the Boise turf installation basically saying "keep it green." Of course, at my age, memory is a ... what was I saying?

I would like to see orange and brown endzones with "Bowling Green State University" in the new script.. Between the goal lines should be kept green. Maybe darker and lighter in five or ten yard intervals. I'd like a BIG retail logo on the 50, maybe from the 40 to 40, and hash-mark to hash-mark, but that's just me.

I've always thought the concrete wall on the sidelines needed to be painted orange also. Or stripe it like the stripe on the helmets the lenghts of the sidelines.

The grass field looks beautiful from the Sebo cam view, and grass hasn't had a chance to grow this season. What a bad idea to get rid of it.

To quote Richie Allen of the Philadelphia Phillies, "if a horse can't eat it, I don't want to play on it." The quote was from the 1960's.

Until the Sebo cam shows the field being destroyed, I hold out hope that the grass stays.

I hope the Athletic Dept has the decency to turn SEBO cam off when it is time to lift the turf, and if the flag is not lowered to half mast while the massed choirs of BGSU sing For those in peril on the sea I'll have something to say.
