I think we may need to find an old photo of Omar throwing in college. That motion appears at first glance to be different to me.

It is how his arm moves next that was unusual- the side arm delivery until the release.

I'm not an expert, but the arm doesn't look too different. The step he is taking towards the target seems to be earlier in the throwing process and larger.
