Dr. Bucko wrote:Well, UK Peregrine, that was one impressive, well articulated answer. No doubt you hold a degree from BG ---- maybe your even a biologist. The big problem is the continuous corruption of the word "theory." It has as many different meanings as their are people who chose to use it inappropriately. To the layman, the word theory is often nothing more than a hypothesis, a guess. To the scientist, the word theory is a statement of probable fact (probable I said) based upon a body of experimental evident. ---- Whatever, I enjoyed/appreciated your response. I'm glad we're both BG people. And I know we agree on one point --- GO BG!
Good call. I am a geeky biologist here at the University of Kentucky and did my graduate work at BG. And yes, I totally agree that the problem for most people is the ambiguity of the word "theory". I run across this problem quite frequently in the classes I teach. It's usaully not a problem with acknowledging that evolution is a both a fact and theory, it's usually a semantical issue with the english language. Unfortunately the english language has multiples meanings for every word, which can be a problem more often than not when articulating an issue, especially for biologists and physicists. Theory is just one of those words that really can cause problems in its usage. Anyways, thanks for responding.

And yes, whole heartedly GO BG :!: :!: :!: See everyone this weekend. :D

John Harris never played football, and probably shouldn't be writing about it. You can tell from the tone of voice, the lack of spark/flavor in his column that he just can't get the real feel for what's going on. He can't project himself into the game. He just mumbles on and on making me fall asleep. He wrote a column last year and said "face it (referring to reader) you only go to football games because of the violence" The guy just doesn't get it. His forte is soccer, and that's what he probably ought to be writing about.

Umm, Mr. Harris was a football coach at one time. Here is his second response to me after I told him Bowling Green would be better to see than Toledo:

Patrick -

I figured as such. I'm a big fan, though, of the Falcons. Charles Sharon was playing at Palatka High School when I was coaching high school in Jacksonville, so I have followed him throughout his career. Plus, I love Magner. I think those guys are solid, even if I did pick Marshall this week. Either way, hope you enjoy the game. Thanks again for the email. Take care, bro. John

Apparently, this is a differ John Harris than the one that writes for the Toledo Blade. I just caught on to that. ------- The Blade's John Harris never played a game of football in his life.

Dr Bucko, your mendacity borders on slander. Mr Harris (the Blade's version) participated in numerous powder puff football games. His career was tragically ended when a bigger girl forced him to eat a clump of dirt during a pig pile.
