The Worst Thing About Bob Davie Is...

Post by BGBoilermaker »

his usage of the word "trickeration." It's not even a freakin' word! It's either trickery, or, uh, I don't know where the "ation" comes from. Anyways, I've seen a few posts about how terrible he is, but I thought his made up word deserved its own thread. :D

Its been a "buzz word" for a few years, actually. So much so that I got tired of it. It falls somewhere in the list with "walk off homerun" and "pick six" (the interception variety, not so much at the horse track  )

I watched about 2 minutes of the UT-NIU replay, and I think I heard him mention "predetermined QB run" at least 12 times. I remember the BG games Mark Jones (is that his name? sounds right, but yet not quite. hmm...) did, and he used that phrase so many times I predetermined that I was going to stick my predetermined foot up his predetermined ass!

Yeah, Mark Jones is Davie's partner in crime. They've gotta be ESPN's worst pair of announcers.

Don't forget the good ol' "Scoop and Score" which I just learned last year. Apparently this is when you pick up a fumble and run it in for a TD.

or the guy on ESPN (I forget who, one of the SportsCenter geeks) who insists on saying "he keeps matriculating the ball down the field" anytime a guy scores on a play longer than 40 yards.

A) its obnoxious and B) wouldn't "matriculate" lend itself to more of a long, hard fought and sustained drive?

Maybe Davie and our PA announcer were trained by the same people....

did anybody else hear davie's partner use the phrase "guts of a catburglar" in reference to coach amstutz going for it on fourth down. I heard him use that phrase about 5 times in toledo's loss to miami and he used it again during the NIU game. Everytime he pauses like he's waiting for applause....pathetic announcing by both of them.

NO ONE should EVER compare Amstuts' fat ass to a catburglar. Can you picture him trying to rob anyone of anything?? He's not exactly the stealth sly type!

As a Notre Dame fan too... one thing I can point out what you might not have noticed about Bob Davie is his use of the word "FOOTBALL." For example:

It's not a game... it's a FOOTBALL game.

It's not a team... it's a FOOTBALL team.

It's not a coach... it's a FOOTBALL player.

He's not a good player... he's a good FOOTBALL player.

The team doesn't have good fans... they have good FOOTBALL fans.

It's never he carried the ball... he carried the FOOTBALL.

This drove me crazy when he was coach at ND and it still does to this day. Hearing that man talk is like nails on a chalkboard!

That reminds me of one of the golf announcers, but I cannot remember which one, that constantly uses golf as an adjective.

That was a great golf shot.
What a beautiful golf hole this is.

WE KNOW IT'S GOLF! You don't have to tell us that this hole is a golf hole, or that his shot was a golf shot. That's fairly obvious when we're tuning in to watch golf!

Freak:
Well put.

Another example of a guy who has a color job just because he used to play/coach football. It amazes me that networks insist on giving schlubs like this positions, assuming that people will tune in because they have a "knowledgeable" announcer. If they could impart some of their wisdom, it would be worthwhile, but when they yammer in an endless stream of cliches, it's just a waste of space.
