I view this announcement very favorably. This is the first real scheduling announcement/match from our new AD. I don't believe he had much previous experience in scheduling. I am glad to see his contacts result in games followed by a public announcement. This is a logical match up between two good programs. This is a contract/agreement (in my opinion) that will be completed; it is a win-win for both schools. We can go to Marshall if we wish and watch a road game. Their fans can come here if they wish; it is in our region.

This move makes sense. I look forward, over time, to more sensible match ups out of our league to go along with the "big money" game and so on.

Go Falcons!

Add some more "BCS" teams- 1-1

Post by Class of 61 »

Glad to see the Marshall home and home...now I'd like to see us add Cincy with the same type deal....a "BCS" home and home...would be both competitive and an excellent scheduling matchup...in terms of travel expenses for both teams.
Education our Challenge, Excellence our goal. (look it up)

I question whether Cincinnati would go for it. Sure, they agreed to two home and homes with us in the early '90s. But I think they were independent at the time and really needed games. With membership in the Big East may come a certain arrogance about these things -- even though, financially, I don't think their football program is that far off of what Marshall is doing.

If they didn't have 110 years invested in their Miami series, I question whether they would still be playing it home-and-home, every year.

Part of why this makes sense for Marshall may be that they spend so much money on conference travel. It has to be a relief for them to be able to charter a bus to a game. I don't think they can do that for any conference game in any sport.

But I'm with you. I like this series for the reasons you do. They are nearby. That's cool.
