You let him off easy, Schad!!! Where's your army poster at!?!

As for OSU fans posting that they'd rather stay home than play in a "lesser" bowl... go right ahead. We'd love to play in our bowl game AND yours, and laugh those checks right down to the bank.

Well maybe some MAC fans at different schools will start wearing their own school colors on game days instead of OSUs. I was shocked to see all the red at Kent, Ohio, and Akron. I guess Miami has it easy.

Divorcing is good, but never even liking them in the first place is better! I'm glad my father figure lead me in the right direction because if I liked the suckeyes, I would kill myself.

Bleeding Orange wrote:I want this to make it official. I am divorcing myself from any allegiance to Ohio State.

I have many reasons for this, but I will get to those. Let me begin by saying that I am the son of an OSU alum and I have been raised on scarlet and gray. Coming out of high school the only college that I applied to was OSU, but I ended up going to community college.

Since coming to BG, it took me a while to warm up to the school given that it wasn't as flashy and well-known for athletics; however, I have come around full-circle and am one of the biggest BGSU fans that you will ever meet.

So, "BG is great, but why renounce allegiance to OSU" you may ask. Well, let me organize this as best as I can:

1. As a die-hard BGSU fan, it infuriates me to no end that many of our students are OSU fans first and BGSU fans second. This is a syndrome at all Ohio schools, I know (one of my best friends went to Kent but could care less about his alma mater if OSU is playing anyone (including Kent)). It angered me yesterday when I went to go to the bathroom at halftime and saw hordes of students heading back to the dorms to watch the buckeyes lose to Purdon't (we beat them (HA!)). It angered me last year that our fans wore BG hats and OSU shirts (or vica versa) when we played Ohio State (and many of the ones who didn't were only doing so because they are Michigan fans).

2. After going to Ohio State last year and Oklahoma this year, I realized what trash Ohio State fans are. They are rude, disrespectful and dangerous. Now, I'm not talking about the old people who love Ohio State, but the students and 20-somethings are terrible. I have never seen drunkenness at any school like I've seen at OSU. I've also never recieved such condescending looks from people after my school almost beat their school. They had just barely won but still looked at me like BG was the scum of the earth and they were soooo superior.

3. I hate the way OSU fans emphasize that they are "THE" Ohio State University, as if no other school in Ohio matters. Well, there are other schools in the state, they do matter, and some of them are in fact better than OSU, just not as big (THE Bowling Green State University). What right have you, OSU, to claim superiority over anyone?

4. I'm tired of the Ohio State and Big Ten attitude based on entitlement. OSU and the Big Ten feel as though they deserve whatever they want because, well, they're OSU and the Big Ten! That makes sense, right? They are not entitled to anything, and certainly not the devotion of everyone in the state.

Those of you on the board that are also Buckeye fans and feel that it is alright to seperate your two allegiances may take offense to this, and I am sorry if that is so. I simply do not feel the same way. If you are from Ohio and go to a school other than Ohio State, the school you go to should be the school you love. It is simply front-running in my opinion to claim allegiance to both. I hope we do play Ohio State in the MCB, and I think there is a good chance that we will, but I really do wonder how many of our fans will show up in scarlet and grey...

So, with that, I divorce thee, Ohio State. You are dead to me and all of my allegiances lie with brown and orange.

Please do note, though, that I do still hate Michigan and just about everything having to do with the entire state (except for the Eagles this week - GO EMU!). Don't worry, though, I hate Toledo even more!
Welcome to the land of enlightenment. I went through a very similar situation not more than 3 years ago. I never attended OSU yet I rooted for their football program. I somehow believed they were related to the success of Ohio. I was basically foolish.

My only dedication is to BGSU and I'm now a much happier person.

hey hey hey hey. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. I hate osu, so thats not the problem, but loving the school I go to? Please. When the school I go to is not Toledo, then we'll talk. Until then, I reserve the right to disrespect my own school all I want.

Bleeding Orange,

What a great post! My dad went to Notre Dame and we lived in two other states before coming to Ohio, so I was never an Ohio State fan. However, my father-in-law is and so I've had it shoved down my throat by him. The one thing I can say about him is that he realizes when his team sucks and just shuts up. Not like 99% of OSU fans who just keep running their mouths.

I went to the OSU-Northwestern game at Northwestern. My sister goes to NU (which made for an interesting MCB last year :P ) Those OSU fans were a bunch of drunken idiots. I was wearing an OSU hat and NU sweatshirt and got harrassed even though I wasn't rooting out loud for anyone. It was amazing to hear some of the things people said. It was pretty quiet on the way out of the stadium though

Glad to see you're divorcing the Suckeyes... go FALCONS!

I wish I could understand why divorcing Ohio State is so hard for people. I really do.

I mean, I grew up about 20 minutes from Ann Arbor. My first college football game was a Michigan-Ohio State game in the Big House and we went to a few before I got to BGSU. My father wasn't a fanatic or anything -- no maize and blue camper, nothing like that -- but he was a sincere, knowledgeable fan.

But I dropped Michigan like a bad habit once I got to Bowling Green. It wasn't hard, either -- not when I saw we played in the same hockey conference and the same division of football. If I had any conflicting loyalties, they were gone by my first winter in Bowling Green back in 1988-89.

I'm proud to say my father now splits his loyalties easily between Michigan and Bowling Green. In 2000, he was at the Big House with me, pulling for us. He came down for a couple of games last year and he joined me at the Motor City Bowl. At this point, he probably has more Bowling Green gear than he has Michigan gear.

I grew up on a football diet of Woody Hayes and cloud of dust. So I've always been a kind of OSU fan. Further, I have degress from both schools, i.e, BGSU and OSU so I've always had allegiance to both. When it comes to athletics today, however, I'm totally orange, and whenever BG has gone to the horseshoe, I've been there cheering like hell for BG. And that loyality will continue. In fact, the Clarett business, and all the investigations past and present, as well as Tressel (who is a disaster as a head coach at OSU) are almost turning me against OSU. I was, in fact, cheering for Purdue over the week-end. And I look for Michigan to beat the hell out of 'em this weekend. ------ One final comment, the BG fans (especially the mouthy younger ones) can be just as obnoxious at a football/basketball game as anyone else. I can remember last year at OSU when a group of BG students stood and started booing when the OSU team entered the field. A group of us old farts had to put them in their place. And there are reports of their obnoxiousness at the Oklahoma game this year. Further, I stopped going to basketball games because of the just-plain-rudeness of the BGSU student body. They think nothing of standing up in front of you (blocking your view), and of shouting obscenities at the visiting team. Student spectators are about the same everywhere, I guess.

RUIT, that is exactly how I feel. And to tell you how far it has come, my father-in-law is taking me and my son to the OSU-UM game Saturday. Whe I was younger, that would have been the thrill of a life time. But now, to be honest with you, I would rather stay home and rake leaves.

Schade, my thoughts exactly. I almost said to Bleeding Orange that it was the hardest thing you'll ever do. But really its not. Its liek giving up bashing your head into a wall. Its nto a ahrd choice.

Honestly, i think that at some point I too was an osu fan, though I didnt know it. I seem to remember an osu knit hat I had when I was liek 5. I cant verify this, but I think thats what it was.

I assume it was based on this fact:
grandpa: osu fan
uncle: osu fan
aunt: osu fan
thier kids: osu fan
(repeat 2x more times for other uncles)
2nd cousin(Wood co. engineer): osu fan and grad
(repeat for his kids)
EVERYONE in my family is an osu fan. (save one cousin that is a Michigan fan) Quite rediculous. My grandpa is a BG grad, and he puts them first, so its not as bad. And my father never really cared about them, and I think he hates them as much as us now. My mom (BG grad) hates the fact that I love BGSU so much, and is upset I put so much effort in BGSU sports, and not into school work (hey, i have my priorities)

How I didnt end up a mindless osu drone, ill never know. I was a Um fan for a while, prior to my BGSU hardcore days begining, but ive since dropped that to slightly more than apathy, but its starting to rise again.(for this reason: my hatred for osu has reached a ceiling. The only way to hate them more, is to cheer for UM, so I do. Anythi nto piss off osu fans, I will do.) but quite honestly, my preference would be for the whole bigg 11 to explode.

You have OU to thanks for Ohio State emphasizing the "THE". If Ou wouldn't have gooten all upset and copyrighted the name Ohio, then Ohio State wouldn't have to say The Ohio State University.
