When TG wakes up, I'm sure he'll have some insight into this...Rightupinthere wrote:Darn.Bleeding Orange wrote: In fact, I never knew that there was a personal relationship between Doyt Perry and Paul Brown. If you care to, please elaborate.
I have often heard of their friendship, but no details. I would love to know more about it.
I know Perry, Schembechler, and Hayes had a pretty tight group but I haven't heard too much about Perry/Brown.
Ask the AD, 8/15: Why not the new Falcon on the helment?

My, my, my aren't you the little snot! The people that were here before you no longer count, the symbols associated with them are irrelevant and the University is now adrift because they've discarded this little falcon head that you're so attached to.NWLB wrote:Generations? Hardly. In any case, it was a step towards creating our logo, not the end of the road. After BG became a full university in the 30s, much of the time after that was spent developing an identity. And it wasn't until the mid 1960s, as the LT logo came into being, that the University assumed its current general size and mission. This is why I said the old geezers from the 50s and beyond, who were attached to old logos, hardly represent the majority of living alumni to come after them.Flipper wrote:For generations of Falcon fans THAT was our "real logo"....numbnutz
Much as we now see starting with these new changes, the school has slipped back into a vague attachment to things with no lasting value, like those old logos. The "real" logo, which it was/is, had over 40 years of use, which no other logo can come close to matching.
You distort history worse than some of those of those commies on the Walmart threads. "LT" was by no means a consistent symbol for the University at any juncture that I can recall....the University seal was used on a lot of things. The interlocking block BGSU was used on a lot of things. Hell, the fricking football helmets didn't even have the "LT " on them consistently until the 80's.
It's your logo...that's fine...have sex with it if you want to. The simple fact of the matter is that it isn't EVERYONE'S logo. It never was everyone's logo and the constant attempts to paint as such are getting rather tiresome.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Vdub, No offense friend, but the Browns trained at Hiram College for many years , and also at Kent...LONG before the current move to Berea. Just for information sake.VDub26Falcon wrote:I gotta say, I really do like the new helmets and wonder if the uniforms will look different as well...it seems that this conversation has missed that point. New font for the numbers? New piping or whatever? It will be interesting to see if jerseys and pants change and how the helmets look with the uniforms.
A Little Trivia...The Cleveland Browns and BG Falcons have the same colors because Paul Brown loved the Falcon colors, and the Browns had their training camps in Bowling Green before moving to Berea.

And unfortunately, my insight is pretty much summed up in RUIT's earlier comment. I know about the well-versed Perry/Schembechler/Hayes trio, but aside from the Browns practicing in BG, I don't know much else about a relationship between DLP and Paul Brown.

So when are we going to break out the snow shoes and walk five miles to campus each way up hill??PGY Tiercel wrote:Yes, but that doesn't matter Mark. Alumni, pre-1960, opinions on the logo don't matter along with current students/alumni starting 2000ish opinions. What matters is that alumni from the 70s, 80s and 90s make sure things (the logo) stay as they remember it.
oh wait, there aren't any hills ....

I didn't say they never trained anywhere else...I just pointed out that Bowling Green was a training site BEFORE Berea.Class of 61 wrote:

BG used to have hills. But because people like '61 and FF1, AAF, and FalconFanatic had to walk barefoot up hill both ways to class and back to their residence halls, the hills were wore down to what we see today as our dear old universityMarkL wrote:So when are we going to break out the snow shoes and walk five miles to campus each way up hill??![]()
