I hate it when our guys get to play the day after being handed a federal indictment..........MACMAN wrote:one be assured two things.

2. if he had played for BG he would be on the field right now..."every one deserves a second chance....there is no place for zero tolerance"

I was moving. OUT OF BOWLING GREEN!
Falcon football is very sour right now. I have no issue donning the orange glasses and proudly do so, but when the reality is out weighing the chance, then ice it with the administrations treatment of wrong doers fans backing into double standards and well this where you end up.

Yeah..so far as Gradkowski's comments go, I can't see how stating "I categorically deny being involved with point shaving schemes" can come back to haunt you if you can in fact categorically deny being in any point shaving schemes.
I'm interested in finding out who introduced Scooter and Triplett (sounds like the name of a cop show) to Gary...is it someone with ties to the athletic department? Has this person made similar introductions before or since?
Aaaaaannnnnnnnddddd what's up with the players getting suddenly current on that back rent right after the lanlord contacted the football staff...how'd they manage that?
And how exactly did that man find out he had dogs buried in his yard? I know dogs like to dig uop and bury bones...but it's not usually their own that they're digging up.

Although I must admit, your interest in the hockey program has probably made you an expert in the areas of disappointment and bad coaching

I agree. Basically, the Tampa Bay PR man made the interview impossible. Nothing Gradkowski said was very coherent. I wouldn't try to read anything into that interview, or parse those words at all.1987alum wrote:As we've recently seen * cough * Vick * cough * making definitive statements that are later proven false can be a real problem.BGGrad01 wrote:I hope Gradkowski's not in on this deal, but if it were me and I was not involved, I would have made a very definitive statement to the reporter. I would not have said "I don't know what to say about that.".
I would know what to say - "I had nothing to do with that sort of activity."
However, at this point I would give Bruce the benefit of the doubt and believe that he was not involved and simply not sure how to answer the question without causing a sh**storm.
And that's not to dismiss the reporting that led ESPN.com to Tampa Bay. I just don't think the interview adds much. Yes, the Tampa Bay PR man was super aggressive, but I wouldn't assume he knows anything.
One of the writers of the story was on The Ticket this afternoon.
Flipper, as you eluded to, he made a comment about the unknown person associated with the UT athletic program that introduced Scooter and others to 'Gary'. He made it sound as if it was another football player. Could this be a "tradition" that has been going on for years? A junior player "recruits" someone to keep feeding 'Gary' inside info?
They didn't get into the basketball side much on the radio, same as the story. For my two cents, the fact Keith Triplett is involved is far from shocking. He already had issue with the law and had trouble in school. He would be the perfect mark for a gambler to get in bed with.
Norm was asking the interviewee about Gradkowski and he kept saying "his name keeps coming up". Like they start down one path and boom, Gradkowski is tied in. They look somewhere else, and boom, Gradkowski again. He also said there is other stuff that they have not yet verified that they couldn't print. Reading between the lines and it seems very logical to me that he was intimating that Gradkowski is going to be in serious trouble at some point.
They repeatedly mentioned that Gradkowski has not been interviewed yet by anyone regarding the case. Seems to me they haven't interviewed him because he may be the target of the investigation. Don't want to tip their hand to him until they know they have him nailed.
That was my interpretation.

If it is indeed Gradkowski tied into all of this, I think more than heads will roll amongst the UT coaches and athletic department. It will certainly be interesting to see if he indeed is tied into any of this, and if any info about certain games comes into question and if there will forfeiting involved.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.
It was interesting tonight, that a few of us were talking about this whole scenario, and Bruce. Somewhere I read that this "tie in" with Gradkowski happened when he supposedly had his broken hand. Do you suppose any of this had anything to do with the "team doctor situation" at UT and all of the hassles that have been going on with that? Just a thought!

As for the issue at hand here, I just hope that these athletes at UT aren't the primary targets, and that the Feds are using them to get to the gamblers involved. If it turns out that McDougle/Gradkowski/etc. were fixing games, that's going to be a black eye not only for UT, but for the Mid-American Conference and all of NCAA football too.
