Miami to switch sidelines
Yes my chubby little fellow Miami Alumni - I have sat on that side (even though I have season tickets in Section 3)- both in the old Miami Field stands that were relocated there in 1983 and the new stands. I prefer the new stands. I LOVE the new stands and I want to keep the Miami students there and I want the visiting bench there. (I loved sitting in the middle of all the students in 1983 watching BG beat the crap out of the Redskins - some kid started giving me crap and my response was "I'm a BG alumni doing my graduate work here....... aren't a student in one of classes" He freaked out - best part - my assistantship wasn't a teaching one LOL)redskins4ever wrote:Have you been on that side? Have you seen the walls? The walkways? Would you like a moat? I swear its like we've all woken up one day and decided that we should all walk around on pillows and be friendly and nice to each other? Football is a collision sport that is violent. Those who aren't there to watch the game and decide to make trouble should be tossed.
NOTICE TO ALL BG FANS - Please go sit - visit - watch the game for a short time in the East stands. The stand risers are metal. The students can really stomp on them and create noise. The lower area for accessible seating and standing is FAN-tastic. You are just above field level (maybe 30" above the field) and can see the speed of the game up close. The architect for these stands really understood how to use materials and to create spaces that make this a create place to watch a game and to cheer for your team. The Stands - when filled - can generate some noise. The wide concourse and the multiple food services areas below are great. A large space to walk around and meet your friends and to get the best concessions. Montgomery Inn BBQ sandwich anyone. Chicken, hamburgs, dogs, (good) pizza, and the normal fare. BTW- Love Yager stadium hot dogs - best I have ever had..... slight spice to the taste.
Let me just flat out and say it - The East Stands at Yager are the best I have ever personally seen and experienced as an architect. They are a high water mark in design for fan involvement and enjoyment. IMHO.
The true is ..... Miami fans are pretty reserved. In 24 years of going to Miami games (all at Yager), I have never seen any rowdy behavior that would embarrass the school. There are lots of knowledgable fans. I love seeing the older alumni - the ones in the 60's and 70's walking around with their alumni band shirts (Its cute and cool at the same time).
Personally - moving benches is stupid. Moving the band can be construed as sensible.
Personally - I would like to see the Miami fans get off their pillowed @$$es and cheer more. And We ( me personally with our kids) were the fans two years ago banging on the metal front of the Yager camera stand chanting "Let's Go Redhawks!" when some old hag battleaxe from the University came up and told us to stop because we were disturbing people. (The players BTW where encouraging us) So maybe we shouldn't go any further about any freaking pillow talk. BTW - We found out later from friends in the AD office that no one in the press box was being disturbed and they were commenting on fan support for the team at the moment. #$%&@#$ ushers.

It's not. If it were, we'd've flipped the sidelines for the two non-conference home games. This is purely an artifact of Rick Chryst's meddling, which, on the whole, I judge to be roughly as appropriate and effective as his "help" with scheduling.Tech83 wrote:The issue of Miami having the students, but more importantly the band, behind the visitors bench has been a concern for some time. I had heard that is was actually an NCAA rule.
Prodesse quam conspici.
I never understood, if it was an NCAA rule, what the real reason was for it, except typical NCAA bull.DevilGrad wrote:It's not. What power do the president's of the MAC schools have in these matter? Can't they stand up to this crap and say -- No. Just curious.

Devilgrad says there was no NCAA rule - that is just what someone at Miami told us - but we weren't positive on that information. I know Devilgrad posts a lot at Hawktalk.com and seems pretty knowledgeable - so I am taking his word.redskins4ever wrote:The presidents hired Rick Chryst they can surely fire him.
Where is this NCAA rule? I wonder if its a phantom rule just like no alcohol in college stadiums.
