87 - Please correct me if I am wrong, however in reviewing your scenario above (see italics), I see us beating Buffalo while at the same time losing to them?1987alum wrote:Well, not really. If we win out.. we win the East no?
What if Miami and BG win out? That would leave Miami, Buffalo and BG with 1 loss in the East.
Miami L to Temple, def. Buffalo, def. BG
Buffalo L to Miami, def. BG, def. Temple
BG L to Miami, def. Buffalo, def. Temple
Then wouldn't it come down to the cross over games or some other tie-breaker?
Buffalo is the only team that clearly controls its own destiny. The equation is simple - win out and win the East. Every other scenario is fraught with "if, then" statements.

I agree with J4H, its way too early to be looking at tiebreaker scenarios. The odds of anybody in the MAC East winning out from here is next to nil based on what we've seen so far.
All I know is that the MAC is incredibly gay for making the cross-division games not count. Its something that defies all logic.

There is more to this madness than meets the eye. Miami only had 1 cross over game. They have 5 OOC games (Miny, Cincy, Colorado, Syracuse and Vandy). With 13 teams, there are some MAC teams playing 7 games (Miami, NIU) but most playing 8 (I thought someone could be playing 9 MAC games but I could be wrong on that) This is why the MAC is not incredibly gay for making cross over games not count. The number of cross over games ranges between 1 and 3.
'87's scenario is a little goofed. It's impossible for Buffalo to stay in the picture if BG and Miami win out (Buffalo is out with 2 losses in the east).
However I think this is a possible scenario.
Miami:Def BG, L Temple, To play Buffalo (need to L)
BG: L Miami, Def Temple, To play Buffalo (need a W)
Buffalo: Def Temple, To play BG (Need to L), To Play Miami (Need a W)
If BG wins out, and Buffalo beats Miami, Miami would have 2 losses in the east (out) Get Buffalo to lose to another East team, and they would have 2 losses (out). BG (winning out) would win. In this scenario.
If BG and Miami win out (I'm not so sure either teams is on enough anti-psychotics to pull this off) we would be tied with 1 loss, and I would be pretty sure the tie breaker is head to head.

Actually, If BG and win out and both only have 1 loss. BG would get The east Title because with Miami only playing 7 MAC games and BG playing 8, that means that Miami would be 6-1 and BG would be 7-1. The point here is that BG would have a higher winning percentage in the MAC and get the title.

FEAR THE BIRD!

But the issue is that the crossover games are basically meaningless this year, so the fact Miami plays one less MAC game is moot/mute (
). Even if they had lost to Ball State, and win out and had two losses, they would still win the East if we won out and only had one MAC loss total. That is why this unbalanced division thing is horse crap.

Nope, it wouldn't matter, its the Division Record. 7 teams in the east. They play 6 division games. 6 Teams in the west. They play 5 division games.svillefalcon wrote:Actually, If BG and win out and both only have 1 loss. Basically, to compare records they must be the same schedule. the only way to do that is division. You cannot penalize or reward a team because of scheduling issues. It is a crappy way to make the schedule because of this.
