Good lord, people! Unless I missed a few dozen of these:
, you all need to take a chill pill. It's not like the guy (or girl) came in here and said "BG sucks!", they simply pointed out what seems like a pretty truthful statement in that the MAC hasn't looked all that great in OOC play. Yeah, BG beat Minnesota (who hasn't), and put up a good fight against MSU, but Miami couldn't get through Minny (that's who hasn't,) Clemson laid a beating on CMU, BG had an ugly game against BC, and so on.

Jeff Sagarin's rankings actually put the MAC ahead of Conference USA this year.

Sure, mostly, CUSA has cratered. But, still, the MAC's numbers in Sagarin's computer rankings, which he's done for many years, aren't really off past years at all. What's happening is that all our teams are much closer to the conference mean.
Normally we have a few very good teams and a few dregs. This year, the elite seem to to have sunk to the mean. The dregs, meanwhile, have moved toward it.

I do think the conference as a whole is not that great right now, but I don't think we've fallen off anymore this year than conferences like the Big 10 or ACC have either.
There just aren't any great teams in college football this year, so why would we expect the MAC to have any? This is just a very strange season all around.

Technically, most of the league, including Bowling Green, was I-AA for that single year because of attendance problems in past years.
Bowling Green struggled to a 7-5 finish, losing their last three games. They got swept in nonconference play, losing 33-14 at North Carolina and 24-7 at Long Beach State. They also got Whammied in Oxford and hammered in the Glass Bowl.
And, yet, most people around here don't remember remember how inept the MAC was that year.
What they do remember is that the Falcons won the MAC and nearly won the California Bowl.
Despite our latest Whammy at Miami, we've got a real shot to play in a bowl game and maybe even win the whole darned thing.
If it happens, that's what we'll remember.
We dont remember because Hockey was doing AWESOME and Basketball was doing well...long lines for tickets to hockey...people scalping tickets infact, parking lots loaded...this is about football on this side.... the year before 1982...1981 at a glance...BGSu opened at Baylor the year before and got shut out in a romping 38 to ZIP..followed by the 23-21 loss to Ohio...close loss to MSU 7-10, then droping to a 21-7 loss to western MI, the big 7-7 tie with REDSKINS, VICTORY 17-10 over NIU, and then Smiles as 10-24 1981 BGSU was victorious over the toledo sprockets 38- to NOTHING followed by voctory over Kent 13-7, and Ball state 14-10, victory over eastern 28-0 lost to central 6-3, Ohio state beat Navy in one of the few bowl games and Penn state Crushed USC 28-10 on Nov 1st
nothing...but a shorter better season, with fewer better bowls that had more meaning...ask me the MaC should focus on the motorcity bowl esp since comon sense and legitimacy dont seem to matter when it comes to anointing would be champions.`
