I am not one to bash our coaches.....

Post by BGorDeath »

but, when I see that our running game is working early in the game, then I see triple reverse with a pass across the field, then I begin to wonder about the compency of the coaching staff. Wille and the O were moving the ball pretty well, then to see this play called and an interception thrown, makes me wonder.

Additionally, the was zero motivation being displayed at the onset.

I don't like to bash our coaches, but I'm just saying....

IMO the trick play was a good call.

The way I saw the play the WR was wide-open, no one was anywhere near him. Then the guy who went to lateral the ball to Freddie tried to elude an Ohio DL (who blew up our OL), stumbled, got wrapped up around the ankle and pitched a slow floater to Freddie. Now Freddie has the ball and the WR is still open but you can see for sure that the entire defensive backfield has turned there backs and are running towards the WR. Of all things Freddie underthrows him, with a high-wobbler into the wind & the ball gets ping-ponged around finally to be picked. Still we tackled them at 5, which works out like a great punt.

Also this play came right after we converted a 4th down, which means we had momentum on our side. Also it took us 4 straight runs in a row to JUST get that 10yards for the 1st down, so it was a good spot to try something else.

My last point is that this play wasn't that significant in the game. I can definitely think of some plays that were bigger...

1. Muffed punt #1
2. Muffed punt #2
3. PICK 6
4. Answering there TD's w/ FG's
5. Ohio's opening kickoff return
6. Ohio's 2 play scoring drive
7. Ohio's 3rd & long in there own territory late in the 4th & they hit a 50yard pass.
4th & 13 on PU 32yd line.. 56,000 fans up on their feet screaming, i held my breath the entire play trying to make as little noise as possible.. wouldnt u know Sharon would make the biggest touchdown catch in the history of BG Football, FALCON UP!

Didn't say it was significant, just a case of incompetancy of the coaching staff. Those plays you listed have bigger effect on the game, but, to me, nothing showed more bad judgement than that call.

Re that trickeration...let that pass forever silence the folks who want Freddie to be our QB. I'm suprised MACMAN didn't mistake it for a wobbly duck ...do we get penalized if a fan shoots the ball while it's in the air?

I also would like to have seen the WR come back and compete for the ball a bit more... but then, I would havbe liked to have sen us compete more on a number of plays.
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
