CMU fans = bad
My freshman year in the band we were at the motor city bowl and there were three guys sporting CMU shirts sitting behind us. They were drunk, but they kept their banter between themselves and only mocked us a few times. Band leaves at half time, does show, and comes back. The three CMU fans are gone, thought nothing of it. We Maggots, who can be described as jolly around the holidays, are not in the best of shape, so we were focused on finding some water and cooling ourselves before some goodhearted CHEERS. One of my fellow maggots was able to determine there was something wrong with our water bottle, probably from the yellowish color and the smell of piss. While I am glad to report that we maggots are so highly evolved we know not to drink piss, the same can not be said for trombone players. What kind of people try and get others to drink their pee. This is how I come to the conclusion of

We always got treated very well there and they ran a pretty nice indoor track operation. Went out of their way to help and they used to get a decent turnout of fans. Of course track fans tend to have brains and not infrequently, some civility. Football fans, not so much.
I did have an interesting exchange with a CMU hoops fan one year who claimed loudly that he was Sugar Ray's sparring partner, then folded like a cardtable chair when the time came...

Yea, if there is such a thing as a bad bunch of college drunks CMU fits the bill. I will never forget what a few of those idiots said about five feet away from one of the Freaklings. Just wasn't cool. Not to mention what the student parking lot looked like after a BG win. I was truly shocked by the amount of trash everywhere, I mean really bad!!!Falconfreak90 wrote:HJ,hamjunior wrote:I agree 100% Freak.Falconfreak90 wrote:I've been to both a couple times as well. While WMU fans aren't the friendliest around, CMU is far worse. Most of their students are total drunken idiots that scream obscenities the whole time. The CMU fans verbally attack opposing fans from the moment you step into the stadium area. And the cops at CMU? Please. They won't lift a finger to help the visting fans and were pretty rude to Mrs. Freak and me in 2002. In 2004, I had the Freaklings in the "Family Lot" knowing the student lot and ones near it would be a baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad idea. And we still were getting railed. These CMU students were yelling and harrassing BG fans with some pretty hard core stuff. They trash their own lots and act like cavemen. Mt. Pleasant is commonly referred to as Mt Not So Pleasant in our house.truth wrote:I've been to both places for games. From my experience, CMU fans are much more tolerable.![]()
Even inside the stadium, when BG was winning by double digits, we constantly had the "BG SUCKS!!! BG F'ING SUCKS!!!" coming our way. Nothing is better than beatins aholes like that in their own house. The "Why So Quiet?" cheer never sounded better than after beating those clods. Mrs. Freak said she will NEVER go back there to another game.
I realize every school has their bad apples...but CMU has a freakin' bad orchard. CMU = CaveMen University.
I was wondering when you were gonna chime in! The CMU fans (at least the students) are the worst in the MAC...by a mile.

Maybe he meant the band...that Mark McGrath doesn't look too toughh2oville rocket wrote: I did have an interesting exchange with a CMU hoops fan one year who claimed loudly that he was Sugar Ray's sparring partner, then folded like a cardtable chair when the time came...
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Because ESPN wanted it done, and the teams wanted to be on TV.hamjunior wrote:I have one question, why would they schedule a rivalry game on a Tuesday night???BGDrew wrote:...did I just hear the announcers call this "THE rivalry game in the MAC?"
We did the same thing with our Toledo game two years ago. Tuesday night. It was cold. Worst crowd for Toledo in at least 15 years. But ESPN did air it.
I think the Friday afternoon after Thanksgiving is going to work better. Sadly, we'll only be on ESPNU with that game.

He wasn't even as tough then as he looks now - My guess is McGrath would have been in the 50-60 pound range at the time, maybe a light bantam, midget class. But that might make more sense had the band existed then. But the guy did want to fly toward the end.Flipper wrote:Maybe he meant the band...that Mark McGrath doesn't look too toughh2oville rocket wrote: I did have an interesting exchange with a CMU hoops fan one year who claimed loudly that he was Sugar Ray's sparring partner, then folded like a cardtable chair when the time came...
