El Paso is a tough place to play. That has become a rivalry game for us. We beat UTEP when they were ranked a couple of years ago and Price has had it out for us since. They always get up for us.
We won the Marshall, Rice, and Army games. That's what counts. Our defense has been inonsistent, to but it nicely.
Rice has an All-american receiver and a pretty good QB. Don't forget they were really up for that game because of Graham. No excuse for Army and Marshall: our offense was awesome against Army.
We play schoolyard type ball. That's how we beat BYU. Last year, BYU rolled us when we were a lot more conventional.
Our secondary has talent, but injuries have really hurt us. I think we had five dbs play in the Rice game. Our offense is such that it exhausts the defense. We've had so many injuries that we moved a te to de.
I hope our team watched ESPN...

What have WE done for Tulsa to give them respect? As far as I'm concerned, this game is a push. It can go either way. I know the "experts" are going with Tulsa, and it's justified. Granted, I hate the fact that everyone thinks we're gonna get destroyed, but based on stats, Tulsa has the advantage. Throw that s**t out the window, it's gonna be the best bowl game to watch. It will be a shootout, and has the potential to go 5 or 6 OT's. Actually, it won't go that far because GB has the stones to go for 2 when it's unconventional. BG wins in 2 OT's. The final...BG 45 Tulsa 44.zeket10 wrote:What has Tulsa done for us to give them respect?cowboyjoe wrote:Army scored 39 against them...enough said. Army scored 14 against Rhode Island? and 3 against Navy.
From what I can gather, this all started when the Tulsa board was posted here and a very small minority of their fans considered this a "mediocre bowl, mediocre opponent." It's obvious that opinion is not shared by all their fans, so why would we slam them for it?
For the love of Doyt Perry can we just keep things as a friendly bowl game where our players and fans are being rewarded for good seasons? Put your anger towards positive energy and root for our team and be proud of the turnaround they did this year.

We beat MWC champ BYU and destroyed Houston to win our division. We have the #1 offense in terms of YPG. I respect you guys, but it's not like we are some I-AA team.zeket10 wrote:What has Tulsa done for us to give them respect?cowboyjoe wrote:Army scored 39 against them...enough said. I don't think anyone predict us to destroy you. Our own fans are pretty skeptical of our defense. We're harder on our team than anyone. You should have seen a couple of the meltdowns we had this year on our board. After we beat BYU, people wanted to complain about defense and special teams more than celebrate the win.San Fran Falcon wrote:What have WE done for Tulsa to give them respect? One thing you'll see is that we have stones, too. We'll go for it on fourth down a lot. Smith will line up as a punter with a wideout on the end. Based on how he feels, he'll throw it about 1/3 of the time. That said, we don't punt very often.
