Unfortunately BG does not have the alumini base nor the money to compete with the big boys. We are a small school that produces teachers and other mid-level employees that will never make the large money to fund a major sports program. The Sebo Center is nice, but cannot compare to what some of the other colleges are able to build. The new basketball court is great, but lacks the size and the luster of the Dean Dome or Value City Areana. I love BG and I donate when I can, but my 500 a year is a drop in the bucket compared to what alums at the major schools donate. What I would like to see Congress do is make donations that are earmarked for athletic programs non-tax deductable, and for schools to pay taxes on the revenue that football and basketball programs make. Teams might think twice before paying a coach 4 million to run a program.

No, all that would do is give them a reason to cut non revenue sports that are supported by football and basketball revenues and therefore takes scholarships away from many deserving student athletes. This would hurt the small schools even more as they have less money as it is anyways to cover non revenue sports.

we are talking about the elected class here...they make a lot of noise every so often and ruffle feathers in a mating dance...then the big schools all toss money to them and they shut up, like the good bought and paid for whores they are. there will be no breaking up the BCS...besides to many of even the fans think a fair and just play off system of champions is wrong...the final out come will be the creation of a new division for the big schools and the bizarre land of all inclusive D1 and separate playoffs so that they can their money.
and the elected class will say..."see we fixed it"

If BG football had to shut down because it could not make enought money, nobody would come and save it. They would say "too bad, thats business", but we support all of these sports that drain a large amount of the budget. I guess the term club sports can't be thrown around either.
Those who can't do, teach. Those who can't teach, teach PE.
