Boise State Interest
Hello BG fans,
As a Boise State fan I am interested in finding out more about your team and fans opinions about our upcoming game. I am looking for honest content and not trying to start a verbal feud.
To be honest I do not really know much about your program beyond what I saw when your team came to our house in 2005.
Do you expect your defense will be the more talented side?
What is your view of your QB race?
How did your O-line look in spring ball?
What are your chances of winning your conference?
What are your predictions for the outcome of our game Sep 13th?
I would also invite any of you whom are interested to visit the Bronco Country forum at http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?S=336
I'll be checking back, Thanks.

Welcome to our humble abode!
I'll answer your questions real quick.
1. I do not expect our defense to be the more talented side of the ball, really. I mainly say this because our defense has not been the more talented side for us in quite awhile. Last year they looked good at times and awful at others, so time will tell how that goes. Offensively we returned virtually all of our playmakers; we have to rebuild the OL, but I still think the offense will be our more talented side of the ball.
2. We really don't have a QB race that any of us know of. Tyler Sheehan is the incumbent starter, and up till now he's the only one any of us have ever seen play. We brought in a Juco kid that is supposed to be pretty good, but he wasn't hear for Spring Ball, so who knows with him. We have a talented kid that was redshirted last year, but he sat out the spring game with academic issues. From what I can tell Brown (the RS FR) has more physical talent than Sheehan, but who knows if he'll even be eligible, besides Tyler has a year of starting experience on him. Beam (the Juco) looked good on film, but until he gets here and gets into our offense all bets are off. I'd be pretty surprised if anyone other than Sheehan was the starter for the game on 9/13.
3. Our OL looked abysmal. In fact, that's not a strong enough word for it. You cannot imagine how bad the OL was in the spring game...it was so bad that it made the entire game unwatchable and destroyed any hope for the offense. That being said, I'll make some excuses for them (and that's not usually my thing). Firstly, we lost 3 starters off last year's OL including a multi year All-MAC and NFL draft pick. After losing those guys we had 2 of the expected starters injured and could not play in the spring game. None of our incoming freshman (a pretty good OL class) were here for spring ball either. Finally, you take that already depleted OL and divvy them up between 2 squads for a scrimmage. Yeah the OL was terrible in spring, but things weren't exactly stacked in their favor either. I don't expect this unit to dominate (certainly not by 9/13), but OL has long been one of our strengths, and I see no reason why this unit cannot gel to be near average by the time the season rolls around.
4. If the OL gels & Tyler Sheehan progresses I'd say our chances of winning the conference are pretty good. We're probably among the most talented teams in the MAC, but OL & QB are two spots that can really hold down a talented squad. Sheehan had some poor games last year, but when he was on he was very good. We need him to get rid of those poor games, because last year they cost us a shot at the conference title. We're definitely among the favorites in the conference, but we'll need those two things to go right for us. The defense is always a questionmark, as well, but I think they'll be at least serviceable.
5. I fully expect us to lose on 9/13. Mainly because that is a long road trip for our guys, and Boise is as tough a place to play as any in the country. I think we've got the talent to give you a better game than we did in '05, but I'd be surprised (and thrilled) if we could pull out a victory. I think it will help that our upper classmen have been to Boise already. In '05 it looked as though we were completely lost and we just pissed down our legs. I'm hopeful the upperclassmen will not let that happen again and will lead the youngsters so we can compete and hopefully win. If I were a betting man (and I am) I'd say I expect us to fall by 7-10 points or so.

Welcome to AZZ! I'll try to answer your questions, but I tend to be in the more pessimistic crowd of Falcon fans.DubLivitz wrote:Hello BG fans,

1. Talent wise, I think the D and O seem to be about on par. If history is any indication, our defense will blow. Hopefully we can buck that trend
2. Sheehan will be the QB for the Boise game. He's decent - average to above average mobility - pretty tough - plenty of accuracy on short routes - can't throw the deep ball to save his life (we probably won't even try).
3. O-line looked hideous in the Spring game. Like, the worst I've ever seen at the D1 level. A good portion of that can be attributed to breaking up the starters instead of playing the first string on one side (which is stupid), but our OL will struggle this year, especially early on. We lost a ton of talent and experience on the OL from last year.
4. I'd say our chances of winning our conference are decent this year. I put us about 50/50 to win the MAC East.
5. I think Boise will destroy us on the blue turf...by at least 3 touchdowns. Your home field advantage is insane, and even though we have a pretty good squad by MAC standards, I think compared to the college football landscape as a whole, we're pretty weak right now.
Feel free to banter with us on all sorts of topics while you're in the neighborhood. We're one of the friendlier communities towards opposing fans that you'll find.

Hey thanks Hammb & Jacobs4H,
I appreciate your input.
Where is Omar these days, did he stick with any NFL teams? I thought he would for sure. He was a pretty accurate passer.
Anybody here going to make the trip?

Yeah, I intend to make the trip. Will need to fly into Boise, but I should hopefully be able to get rides from frat brothers up there and not need to rent a car. Even though we'd be opposing teams, I'm guessing they'd be glad to see somebody from outside the state of Idaho!DubLivitz wrote:Hey thanks Hammb & Jacobs4H,

Yeah, half the people living here are already from outside the state of Idaho. This place is one of the fastest growing areas in the country and it's not from a high birth rate.MarkL wrote:Yeah, I intend to make the trip. Welcome to our paradise. Have you visited yet? There may be some culture shock but you can't beat the place for living once you get used to it. Incredible environment.
How about a compromise? You bring your orange and we'll add a little blue for ya.
If you can get tickets to the game you'll love it. The atmosphere any way. May not like the beat down as much.

Last time I made that trip Omar was pretty accurate, towards all of the Boise players. I don't think I'm going to make that drive again with these gas prices and flying isn't much cheaper...DubLivitz wrote:He was a pretty accurate passer.

If anyone goes though, you will love it there. Boise fans are top notch and the area is beautiful and scenic!

I've been out twice. Loved Boise. Great town. Unfortunatly we're not moving to Boise, but rather the Twin Falls area. Still enjoyed it though. Absolutely beauitful.Beef Zerkie wrote:Welcome to our paradise. Have you visited yet? There may be some culture shock but you can't beat the place for living once you get used to it. Umm...no compromise. The Orange and Brown in my veins runs deep and cannot be replaced. My GF is an elementary teacher, and everytime she wears her orange BGSU jacket her kids accuse her of wearing Boise colors. I have been a casual fan of BSU for several years ever since you first started breaking on the national scene. Of course that stops anytime BGSU comes to town. Is that enough of a compromise?

That works. It's not like we will play BGSU very often. My neighbor moved here from Fresno a couple years ago. They play in our conference and most consider them to be our biggest rival. He is still a Fresno guy but has really converted to BSU otherwise. If you watch or go to games it will just suck you in. The game atmosphere, the community being so pro BSU, the really good teams and winning a lot, and then you throw in the really class players and coaches we have it makes it impossible not to. Our coach is just pure class, even when there are no cameras and the people here love him for it.goofyeuph wrote:I've been out twice. Loved Boise. Great town. i played on the blue turff and caught a touchdown when i was 7 when we lived in boise at the time, my dad worked for kcbi channel 2 i believe it was. haha man i have so many good memories of boise, horizon and jackson elementry schools is where i went and my brother went to west junior high. boise racquet and swim club was where u cud find my whole family all summer and of course camels back park. also the best sledding in town lol. boise really was a great town my family liked it a lot and it was really close to all my relatives who live in oregon or northern california.
Never.Want.To.See.That.Blue.Turf.Again.
I am sorry to hear that. We love our blue turf out here.
Glad to hear most of you have had good memories of Idaho. It is a great place to live. I have been working in southern cal and miss it very much. IMO LA has the ocean but that is the only thing here that comes even close to equating to the beauty of Idaho.
Also, the airport is not far from campus so a car may not be necessary. There is quite a lot to do near BSU as well. A short walk or taxi ride would suffice.
