Any conference would love to have Notre Dame, but their TV numbers have been less than spectacular lately. The ratings have progressively gotten worse topped off by last years aweful 1.9 average rating. I was a little surprised to see NBC to sign a five-year extension. They must be really counting on ND making a big turn around because you can put a lot of things on TV and get a 1.9.hammb wrote:Umm, the same reason for everything in college athletics...MONEY. ND has the largest following in the country and it's not even close. They continually put up big TV numbers, have a large following, and they meet the academic profile of the Big 10.redskins4ever wrote: Why would any conference want Notre Lame?
Of course ND has no motivation to join a conference because they currently have exemptions for the BCS that benefit them greatly, and they've also got their own TV contract that brings in far more revenue than they'd get in a conference.
Make no mistake every conference in D1A would kill to add ND.
As for BG joinig the Big Ten, that's absolutely laughable. Somebody said Ohio State would never let another Ohio school join the conference, well I've got news for you the other 10 schools wouldn't let BG to join either. If the Big Ten were to welcome in a 12th school they would have to bring some sort of benefit to the conference. BG would bring the Big Ten nothing athletically, adademically and it wouldn't open up any new media markets.
