Someone has to say it.
Many of us remember the euphoria of BG's magical 1985 season, rolling undefeated through a regular season scheduled that included Kentucky and a very tough Miami team. Before MAC teams regular got national exposure (and before there were multiple polls and a BCS), the team was actually receiving votes in the AP Top 20 poll.
Then, just days before a bowl game, Stolz announces that he's quitting.
We all remember the train wreck that brought on.
Go ahead, Urban. Take the Notre Dame job before this unprecedented bowl game. Watch the Utes implode and give all the BCS conferences plenty of opportunities to say, "see, we told you that the mid-majors can't play with us with something big on the line."

Actually, the Falcons were 20th in one of the polls.1987alum wrote:the team was actually receiving votes in the AP Top 20 poll.
I don't see how Utah won't steamroll Pittsburgh, with or without Urban.
windy city ... that's what happend to BG ... San Diego State apparently told Stolz they were going to announce it right away so we took the pipe
schade ... you're probably right, it just galls me. Plus, I will never - EVER - be able to forgive Stolz for what he did the school and the kids on that team.

I'm in your line on that one. I watched the assistant coaches cry before the game. It was awful..
So what if Mrs. Meyer's husband stays. Yeah - the Utes will be fired up, but will their hearts be in it.
And who in the Heck is going to coach Notre Dame in the bowl game. ARe they going to wait for the day before to announce that one?
For good measure- EVERYONE keep your mitts off of Gregg Brandon. We are just getting on a good roll here.

The primary difference between Urban and Denny is that Stolz was a liar AND a cheat (Michigan State was sanctioned by the NCAA) while Urban is just a liar.
That 1985 game really burned me because I had to by this girl I was seeing dinner at a more upscale restaurant than she warranted because we bet on the game and then we broke up shortly afterward.
Probably because she sensed that I didn't think she was upscale enough for Arby's...
